Adapters don't need to be made for brakes/sprockets? We actually have a 999R at the shop right now. I'll have to investigate.
I'm not a fan of the way tubers look with XB wheels, especially when the front end and swingarm is swapped as well. It works well, I know, but is not for me. The dual disks do add a bit of weight, but for me the pad and disk life as well as fade free performance and single finger stopping power are worth it.
I really liked the Marvic wheels that used to be available. Pure sexy. |

I don't know. With a little work though, it can be done. I originally fitted an XB wheel and brake on the stock S2 forks by changing to different bearings, cutting down 2 long factory spacers, and built a steel caliper adapter. Worked great, but the fork seals were already gone and the adapter weighed a ton, and I wanted to lower the front of the bike, so I fitted XB forks and axle afterward. It's the factory front fender that looks fugly. I have a custom LSR fender that look much better, and since this pic, I've trimmed 1.5" off the front and it looks even better.

Your bike looks great. I just don't want mine to look modernized in any way and certainly wouldn't want to loose any ground clearance. The rear end is raised an inch, and I really like how she works that way...though it still drags footpegs at times.
Braking makes some forged wheels for the XR1200. Those look like they'd be easy to adapt.
Maybe if they're still available in a couple years...

Gotchya. From what I could gather this morning, the majority of Ducs use the same bearings front/rear as the Buells use in the front. Some of the older ones use 6204-2RS up front and 6005.2RSR rear, while later models use the 6005.2RSR up front and maybe the same in the rear. I haven't found the size of the rear, but I know the 999 has a 25mm front axle, which means it uses the 6005.2RSR without a spacer, similar to the XB. However, if you look at my bearing chart in the link below, you'll notice that both the above bearings have a 47 mm OD, so in a custom application like this, they could be swapped if needed. I originally cut down two long tuber wheel spacers to center my XB wheel (fitted with tuber bearings) onto my stock axle. If the 999 rear wheel uses a 6005.2RSR or a 6205-2RS, then it too would be an easy swap since the tuber rear axle is also 25 mm and you would only need to build simple spacers. You may have to trim the rear caliper bracket to space it correctly to the rotor. I had to do so to mine to fit the XB rear wheel.

BTW, I was originally planning to convert to those wheels before I decided on the XB wheels. I've missed out on 999R wheels on eBay for as little as $400/pr. |
