Greetings,
For you S1 riders,
how comfortable is an S1 seat for daily driving and cutting up the hill country? Who makes the most comfortable seat?
Thanks in advance.

Go out to a parking lot and sit on one of those curb things....the S1 seat is about that comfortable........

but it's still a blast to ride!!

i have a 96 with the corbin single seat. if you want something comfortable don't get one! i don't know about the stockers but if you want something comfortable i wouldn't even get an s1. mine vibrates, shakes, the seat is hard, rides stiff, makes alot of noise,DAM I LOVE IT!

Thanks guys. Hilarious responses!
I have an M2 I am putting together (got it in boxes). Want it for solo riding. Still debating whether or not to some how make a ricer rear end work or do the easy thing and use an S1. Keep y'all posted. Nice bikes Dean! We should ride once I get the M2 up and running.

gotta agree with everything said. I have a Corbin on my S1, decided one day to put the stocker on and go for a ride. Needless to say that was a mistake. The Corbin is more comfortable than the stocker, but not by much. I have wanted to try the Pro Series, but really do not want to drop the cash if it does not make that much of a difference

The 1998 solo seat is a bit roomier and a better shape than the 1996-1997 seats...only it's definitely still not a long haul type deal. You loose the ability to take a passenger...but...eh...not everybody fits back there anyway.

I like the seating arrangement. It's ideal for short trips and messin' around.

My S1 was modified to vibrate more, be less comfortable, ride stiffer, and make much more noise than stock. The fun factor makes it worth it.

I chopped my tail and made a custom solo seat for my "02" M2.

Even Erik, if I recall correctly, has been quoted as calling the S1 (S1W, actually) solo seat a "one cheek seat".

Looking at your profile, you have an M2.

Leave the seat in the garage when you take it for a ride next time, that'll give you an idea.

S1s are a HOOT, and they're easy to move around on and hang off of...but comfortable they ain't : )

you know what, i thought it looked uncomfy, and i get comments on how uncomfy it must be all the time.

but really, its not that bad, and i have a firebolt upper tree and bars so im pretty leaned over. on long trips i lean most of my weight on the tank, and when your canyon carving who cares?

in down stop/go your nuts can get a little smashed or awkward feeling but its worth it

Romar,
Come out to one of our HellBuelly bike nights and I'll let you ride mine around the block. You'll probably be tired of it by then! I have the "Euro" seat on mine (longer and flatter seating area than stock). One day I'm gonna steal Blks1l's Pro Series seat though...look out, Dean!

I rebuilt a "rolling frame" S1 for a friend of mine a while back.
After I rode it for a while for "testing purposes", I named it the Thunder Thong.
The name stuck, to everyone in the neighborhood it still goes by that name.

Jerry H (Ferris Bueller) named his old S1 "The Thong" long ago...

I carried a pistol and a change of underwear on my back, with a tank bag stuffed full of tools.

The wife and I did a two up ride for 500 miles. That sucked.

I tried the Pro Series, and it was definitely more comfortable than stock, but still a bit tall ans tending to smash the junk during in town riding:

So I eventually trimmed my stock seat and had it recovered. I rode it this way to Vegas (and back). I've had it recovered again since but it's pretty comfortable, as far as S1 seats go:

Back in 2002 there was a guy on the board who spliced a yamahondakawazuki tail on his M2. It was a stock black bolt on tail, he had lugs welded to the main frame after cutting off the Buell sub-frame, then just bolted the other section on. I don't recall what he did with the oil res or if there were issues with the seat fitting up.

Wish I could remember what kind of bike it came from, I've tried searching the archives in the past but haven't spent enough time there to find the pictures again.

Don,
We've been going to Opal Divine's Penn Field for awhile now (though there is talk of moving again).

If we move it, we'll post up the new location on the Hellbuellies forum.

Sounds like a deal James. Touch bases with you when I get back from offshore. Started cutting up the original seat. Plan on cutting out the center to add gel. Not sure if it is still too wide. At least it is comfy. Also I think the seat hugging the tank is throwing me off a bit. Mebbe just keep it triangulated and turn up at the tank like the S1. Any opinions? Gonna try my hand at fiberglassing the rear tail fairing. Need some ideas. I want to expose as much of the frame as possible. I want to move the electronics under the tail. Didn't the early models have them there. Any pics? Thanks once again.
