The stock clutch on my 2000 M2 has fried, and I've bought an Alto Carbonite clutch to replace it. However, my problem is that I'm not exactly sure how many plates to put in. The kit comes with 21, whereas the stock clutch has 14 friction and steel and one spring plate. Seeing how the Alto clutch eliminates the spring plate, and each new plate has carbon on one side and steel on the other, I'm really not 100% sure how many plates to put in. The Alto part number for the clutch I bought is 095750BC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | ||

Did it come with instructions? Do the 21 plates equal the overall height of the stock 14+1? | ||

Just a guess I would say try putting in all of them. If you have extreme difficulty in installing the snap ring or the clutch won't release pull out one. | ||

It came with instructions, but they were extremely vague in this regard (they were only a paragraph long). When all 21 plates are on, it does seem like there are too many (the last internally-splined plate can barely fit on). I have a feeling it may only require 19 or even 17 plates installed, because the kit is compatible with both the Big Twin and the XLS. Use 10 outer plates and 9 inner plates. I put this kit in my bike this winter. You should have one outer and one inner plate left over. Don't forget to use Redline ATF instead of your normal primary fluid. If you use your normal primary fluid, you will get a drag that you will not be able to adjust out. | ||
