Some of you may remember this thread

Recap - I had a nasty squeak whenever the bike was rolling soon after I started riding. I could hear it was coming from the front sprocket area of the engine. I confirmed this by dropping some oil inbetween the front sprocket and the motor. (Not very clean, but an effective method to verify the source).

Tonight I removed the front sprocket. I had to use a 6 foot long pipe in order to apply enough force to break the nut loose!!! Why? Well it turns out that the 26 tooth aluminum sprocket had run it's course. The teeth thatgo onto the shaft were almost completely worn away. As the sprocket started sliding forward the reverse threaded nut kept getting tighter. Fortunately I saved the stock 27 tooth sprocket and will be putting that back on tomorrow. (ran out of locktite)

Glad you found the problem, and that it was not the needle bearing as I had feared.

Thanks for letting us know. Dave

Clean the shaft to surgical standards and use some fresh loctite, or that nut will back off, putting you in the same place in short order.

You know how I know.

Here is a pic of what my pulley looked like after I pulled it off

Today was my first ride with the 27 tooth pulley back on. I really miss the 26 tooth one for speeds under 30 mph. It is a very noticable difference in acceleration.
