There have been two do far.
The first one, in Colorado, was created from an idea that Frank Skinner had.
Or perhaps it was more of a desire...
To gather together, as many S2 enthusiasts in one place, as possible.
Shortly after the first gathering, it was discussed here on the badweb, about a second gathering.
The Texans accepted the challenge, and provided everyone with an exceptional location, along with some great roads, for the second gathering.
At the same time, the 3rd gathering was also being discussed, and Tony, AKA Spiderman, accepted the challenge, and is currently working on a location, and some ride loops for us next year...
The 4th gathering is still up in the air.
Who will host it? Where will it be?
I consider these S2 Gatherings to be a great success.
I really enjoy riding, and hanging out with people who are enthusiastic about the S2's.

That is a lot more candles than you have on a Birthday day cake.

I would not worry about the particulars yet Butch... I hope you can make the Gathering in the UP. It will be an event to remember like they all have been. You may even get some ideas.

Having someone help you is imperative like myself, Jay and Tony have learned in the past.

NOW would be a great time to get a volunteer so you all can brainstorm about how you want the event to go down.

I will see you another email later.

I would stay away from Orange stuff in a Mason Jar as it seems to have a memory blocking effect on some S2 Riders...

(Jarheads cannot handle their booze I guess)

Ok, here is the scope on the S2 Gatherings.

In 2005 I think, JerseyThunder (a former S2 rider) suggested a Gathering. It is really his idea.

How it came to be in Colorado.

I wanted to have a Buell Rally in Colorado like in past years (I was still active duty and could not attend). I had many conversations with Kim (he was behind these) in Breckenridge. Kim and his lovely wife talked to me and Lynn about when to have it and gave a lot of great advice. This was to be a Buell Rally (not a S2 Gathering). I brought this idea up to the local Colorado Springs group and got no response and certainly no offer to help… I am pissed about that to this day. The Denver Group (Colorado Thunder Club) is a fantastic group and I ride with them many times a year and I would say their only downfall is they have not embraced the tools on the Internet to stay in touch. They plan several rides a year and it is working for them however, a new Buell rider in Colorado may have trouble getting in touch and added to their mailing list. This, in my opinion, would not work well with this type of an event.

High Country Harley Davidson Buell, BMC and NRHS really stepped up and provided great swag. (Since HCHD advertised for me I got a lot of funny calls about the poker run in Buena Vista LOL)

Anyway, looking through past threads and on the suggestion of some enthusiastic S2 Riders like Rex, Bart, Jay, Tim etc, I thought: Ok, I will be the first under the bus. There is no better group of people that are always willing to help out than S2 Riders. And that my friends, is how this was born, many different people with many different ideas. I would like to point out that Rex was the rock behind this, does this stuff for a living, and deserves all the credit for the first Gathering.

It was the highlight of my time as a Buell and S2 Enthusiast.

From the first Gathering I got to meet Jack, Shane, Mike, Eric and Jaci… I may had never met them without this and I do not think it would be a S2 Gathering without Jack (Jack is close to your age Butch so no crap about dying)….. Shane designed the timing covers and Mike is just one hard corps S2 Rider…..

So, while I think it is good to have one person keeping the S2 Gatherings in line with years and locations I do not think I ever volunteered for this…. LOL, it is all good.

The best thing is Lynn got just as excited about it as I did and was there to help me and to listen when something did not go according to my plan…. And none of this would happen if it was not the support from BMC, Court all the riders that made it to the first event. Even though Court has not made it to one, YET, he is the driving force behind our little community of S2 nuts.

So

2009 Buena Vista Colorado
2010 Leakey Texas
2011 in the UP of Michigan
2012 to be announced but it is going to be great
2013 Finger Lakes of NY
2014 OPEN: (a West coast event would be great hint hint) Need Volunteer
2015 OPEN: (this one may be in East Troy (20 years of S2s)) Need Volunteer

Can this keep going year after year? I do not know but I have been very suprised so far. We will see... I may be willing to do another one in Colorado. The memory of the pain of the first one is almost over...
