Can't wait, Taking a Man trip with about 12 friends. Gonna take the S3T from Southeastern Va down to Northern Georgia and up threw the Blueridgeway Parkway to Eastern Tennessee for a 2 week trip threw the mountains to include the dragon. Getting close we will be leaving in the beginning of next month and staying at the Woodberry Inn, Hunts Lodge, and another motorcycle campground I can't remember the name of. I've been spending the last 3 months getting the bike ready. New D&D race exhaust, CB,GPS, and got my hardbags mounted up and ready. First long ride can't wait.

I feel you about getting the bike ready for a big trip - I'm in the middle of the same thing, leaving in 3 weeks. Have fun!

It appears they are dealing pretty well with progress on clearing the Deals Gap rockslide, and keeping the Dragon open 8am-8pm. They were talking about closing it for repairs, but thankfully for riders and the people who make their living off them, it looks like it's working out well.

If the schedule permits, I advise doing The Dragon on a weekday. Lots less traffic. I tend to just sit in the lot at the Dragon Store on weekends and look at bikes in the lot and talk to folks. The Dragon itself is mostly a zoo on weekends. And don't forget to ride the Cherahola Skyway. Folks at the Dragon say it is better than the 129. And plan a bit when riding the Blueridge. Gas stations can be rather far away from it, and an adventure to find. Sounds like a great trip, Have Fun!

the Cherahola skyway was a blast. I bought my M2 in Florida and rode it home via deals gap and cherahola. It was a fun ride home and the first time I ever rode on a Buell. Have fun!

The road is closed at the SW end! You can ride it but not on a thru-basis but commence from the SE start. This was 3 weeks ago and according to their spokesman, it wasn't to open completely until Aug 1, 2010.

I will be there the 15th-20th.

Sadly I'll be riding with nothing but HOG FAGS.

Anyone want to meet up and show me the roads?

yeah, you're right

please ride the cherahola, cherrycola, or whatever skyway. it is uber cool, and built for no other reason than the scenery and the road itself. because of the 129 closure, i ended up riding it twice during the weekend. there are other roads in the area that are cool, but not as well maintained or well built as the skyway.

enjoy

Now on day three of our trip. STaying at the Hunts lodge, just outside of Telico plains. Rode the Skyway twice and the dragon twice. You really have no choice but to do it twice. but at least the whole thing is ridable. We have rode every road we can find on the map in this area and tomorow we are heading out to Maryville then home via Blackburg. Has been a nice trip. I had a chance to go toe to toe with a Honda CBR 1100???. I think the old S3T surprised him, couldnt shake me. That is until he hit a long straight away and blasted up to 160. Fu trip so far and the Buell is definately turning alot of heads and getting a few strange looks.

just got back from the Dragon it is open to the part where it flattens out around the lake. I stayed at Deals Gap make a resivation it is a great place to BS and rest. The Dragon is open 8am to 8 pm from Deals Gap into Tenn to the bottom just before it goes around the lake. The only thing you can't do is go into Tenn to the foothills parkway on 129 fine. Go and have some fun.

the skyway and talico plains is super awesome.
I've ridden the dragon and I liked it a lot too, but yes, a lot of people up there on that one.
