Just stumbled across a BBQ grill place that carries non-ethanol 91 octane. Is there any pros or cons to switchin over to the N-E fuel. One guy told me there that in FI bikes its not noticeable but then I was told I would notice a difference in idle and a little in mileage by another guy. Sooo I decided to ask that most knowledgeable people that I know. So here I am. Thanks!

I noticed a reduction in mileage when they switched us over to 10% ethanol.

Not too bad in my X1 but in my Honda Fit it went from over 40 down to mid thirties.

non-ethonal burns more efficiently than the gas with it added... but the difference in %10 isn't all that much. the E85 is where you can really feel it.

i would have to see for my self if you could notice a difference in our bikes.

the big differance is in running temp. ethanol burns hotter. Being a air cooled bike it is better to run non-ethanol fuel. You have to remember that this topic is is very debatable though, it's like asking someone which oil is the best. I run ethanol free fuel but that is just me.

Ethanol burns cooler than gasoline, that is the reason it is blended with gasoline. 10% ethanol keeps combustion temp below 1700F to reduce NO formation.
High heat latency of ethanol cools the intake charge and reduces engine and oil temperatures.

We run straight ethanol and or menthanol in our sprint car & we have to lean down the injectors to get the engine up to 180 degrees. We run a 410 cubic inch engine and the radiator is only 12" x 17". The injectors will have frost on them on a humid nite.

I have noticed since putting in the non-ethanol that it pings perty good when leaving the light if I lug it to much when before it wouldn't but on very rare occasions. Every once in awhile I also get what I would call hickups when taking off. Which I didnt have before. So I guess I will be going back to 10% ethanol fuel again. Anyone have any other ideas. Thankx

I would think not either but from what reactions I'm getting from the bike it was. I'm thinking of running some treatment trough the tank and then fillin up with Non-E again and trying it. Maybe having alittle NE and E in the tank together it doesn't like so I will burn the rest up and filler up again and try that. Any other info would be GREAT thanx Guys.

My bikes run fine on E-10 but I do jet them on the rich side to keep things cool and I use a bit of 2-stroke oil to keep the valve guides and cylinders lubed.

With those small changes, E-10 works very well but I do have a problem with moisture and E-10 doesn't keep in the can, even with Stabil, so it has to be used while it is still fresh.

Dave,
What 2-stroke oil do you use. A friend told me about blendzall but I've never heard of it. Cause I was contemplating doing as you are.

Also I have had great luck with SeaFoam for fuel treatment, but the one that worked the best and the one I put in all my gas vehicles is StarBrite Star-Tron. My boat hated Ethanol and I was constantly cleaning carbs (6ea) started with ST and I let the boat sit almost 8 months and I checked the carbs no problems found primed the mtr and fired right up. We also recommend it on the DL here at my work to customers (CAT dealership).

I am using Pennzoil Full Synthetic Marine 2-Stroke oil. It comes in a yellow jug and I get it at Walmart.

Years ago I began using leftover race gas premix in the tow vehicle to use it up before it separated and went bad. The tow vehicle always ran fine on the premix and no fuel was wasted.

I can't say for sure that it has any effect on keeping fuel deposits out of carbs like Sea Foam and I can't claim more power or smoother running like octane booster but I definitely can say that it has not fouled any spark plugs and does not smoke.

It might help cushion valves on the seat and it seems to lube the valve guides.

However, it does seem to reduce operating temperature a bit and my cylinder bores look beautiful so I do believe it helps prevent scuffing.

Old fuels had additives that provided some lubrication that is not present in new fuels so I like the idea of replacing the lubricant to those hot moving parts.

I put in one (1) ounce at each fill-up for normal riding but when it is really hot in the summer and I am going to be in slow traffic or riding hard I use two (2) ounces per fill-up.
