I am looking for a set of "nice, used" pipes for my son's bike. I am trying to get his bike ready...he is leaving for boot camp in August and I want to have it back together for him after he's done. He has a '99 X1 Lighting. Thanks.

Thank your son for us.

You need any of the "T" shaped late headers, X1 or S3, with EFI (the EFI headers have oxygen sensor ports; carb headers are the same shape but no O2 sensor port in the rear tube).

And by T shaped, I mean the two primaries run nearly horizontal, till they meet, and parallel each other on the way down - as opposed to the early S bend headers where both primaries are individually formed in large S curves. The 2 shapes do NOT interchange; one runs over the rear frame tube, one runs under it.

Butch - the set you posted will NOT fit an X1, the '97 S3 was still the early style header.

For an X1, he needs this style:

The ones you posted will fit pre-98 tubers, carbureted. S2, but the collector is wrong (S2 is pointed back, these are pointed across). S1. 98-earlier M2. 97-earlier S3 (maybe 98). They "fit" an S1W but again, wrong collector - S1W had 2.5", the rest were 2".

The ones he needs are from 99-up X1 and S3 EFI. Late (99-up) M2 will work if he welds on an O2 bung in the rear primary about 5" from the head. All 2.5" collector.

Notice the shape difference between the ones you posted (S), and the ones I posted (T). That's the giveaway. The O2 bung is the carb/EFI giveaway in the T shaped ones.}

That looks like a Force Streetfighter pipe. Does it have a reverse cone megaphone for the "muffler"? High horsepower, very loud, kinda finicky and prone to breaking at the mounting points, if it is. That's definitely a Force XR2 Forcewinder air intake.
From the X1 files:
A full racing header, NOT a slip-on glasspack. Features a step header, mega-merge collector, reverse-cone megaphone, front mount, and JET-HOT coating, in your choice of Shimmering Silver or Bad Black.

Some fitment problems recorded with X1 installs, but Johnny at Force seems to have a rock solid rep. for customer service.

"I have the Force exhaust on my 2001 X1. Awesome sound to it. The Harley guys are jealous. Although it is louder than most people like, it is advertised as a full race exhaust. I think it sounds mean. Although it does focus the power above 3000 it isn't bad below. You hit that 3000 mark and you know it though. Downshift and let the clutch slip and you're looking at the sky. I also have the Forcewinder intake and the Powercommander on the bike. One awesome setup."

Here's a link to a lot more X1 info (some out-of-date as far as availability of products, etc.):
