Any one have an answer for this one? My 2000 M2 while accelerating in first gear - and this only happens in first gear - randomly and briefly hesitates. It feels almost like a misfire or as if the power disengages for a millisecond. Others have posted on this. The last series of posts suggested that maybe the clutch release mechanism was at fault or that is is caused when you forget to replace the little spring between the clutch inspection cover and the lockplate (page 6-8 in manual). These parts look OK on my bike. Any ideas before I tear out the clutch? Many thanks.

When is the last time you checked the carbs? Have you tested for exhaust or intake leaks?

Get the simple shit out of the way first!! lol

I had a similar problem with the transmission in my S1W. The problem was worn dogs on the first gear cog. I replaced both first and second gears. The problem has not come back.

Thanks Dk - carb OK, no intake leak

Lake bueller - worn dogs is definately a possibility. Thanks for the response.

Mine did that in 2nd gear. Worn dogs. A bald tire can also do it.

I had the same problem on my 97 M2 about 50k KM's ago. I replaced the worn dogs and 1st and 2nd gears which fixed the problem but it's just starting to do the same thing again. My 2002 M2 has now done about the same KM's without a problem maybe they fixed the issue in the later models

And the good news is you don't have to split the cases to work on the tranny.

Mine was doing that as well and i took it to the stealer-ship to have it looked at. And have a smooth shift drum installed with a new clutch and they F'N broke my tranny!
1 day later after i picked it up the tranny would not shift at any rpm above 3k.

So i went in and took the whole tranny and shipped it to zippers performance for a total re-build for racing.

I went with all new main-shafts, new gears, new smooth shift drum, Billet trap door race clutch, Back cutting of the new gears, all new springs, New shifter pawl assembly.

All to the the tune of $2000.00 But this tranny is so awesome now it can't be beat except for a 6 speed baker!

Kaput: Have you found what your problem is?

I seem to be having a similar problem in second gear now. I tried to tune it out with the carb but I'm not having any luck. I think I need to redo my exhaust baffle, but that is probably not the problem. I realllly don't want to tear into the motor as I like to ride the M2 quite a bit...looks like I may have to...

Drawkward. I have not had the time yet to explore further but since it only happens in one gear and I've ruled out more obvious stuff I'm willing to bet that the worn dogs theory is the correct one.
