What do you use to adjust this? I don't have a wrench big enough. Where can I get one?

I looked high and low for a crow foot wrench I could use. I wanted something I could take with me to switch pre-load between two-up and solo riding. I've had no luck.

I managed to bust loose the jamb-nut using channel locks but I used a PLUMBING WRENCH I found to turn the canister. It worked great for that. The plumbing wrench I used is made from flat sheet metal but there is an adjustable one as Buellistic suggests. That didn't look strong enough to me for the jamb-nut but you might give it a try, it should work for the canister.

I didn't want to use channel locks on the jamb-nut but I read here that the nut is tough and wouldn't scar but it did take a little black paint off.

Be sure to grease half-way around the shock threads so you don't ruin them. That would be an expensive mistake.

Plumbing wrench will mar the hell outta the surface!

Go to Harbor Freight and get a large adjustable wrench...

HOW DO YOU SET THE PRE-LOAD ON THE SPRING ???

Takes two people ...

The RIDER has weight off seat as the helper pulls up on the tail section(DO NOT PULL OR LIFT ON ANYTHING THAT BREAKS) to take sag out of shock ...

The helper measures from the mark on the masking tape to groung(drive way/gauarge floor) ...

Note the measurement ...

RIDER now lightly sets down on seat and the helper takes another measurement and note same ...

Subtract the two and you have the PRE-LOAD SAG ...

Normal riding the pre-load sag should be 1 1/2 inches and for RACING 1 inch("i" prefer racing 1 inch pre-load sag) ...

Same process for two up riding and as "i" prefer to keep mine set up for two up riding ...

The replacement Shock after the recall is 52mm for the lock nut and 61 mm for the canister.

this spanner would not be for the 61x52mm shock. it is for the original equipment shock pre-2001

If you can loosen/tighten the jamb nut (or lock nut) the whole cannister can be turned (per old threads here) with a spiffy rubber strap wrench thingy from the grocery store; one of those things for loosening the caps on pickle jars, ect.

yes, I have a 2002 so that wrench wouldn't work for me.
