Ok guys and girls i have a full D&D exhaust system on my X1 and i just blew the front exhaust gasket. It was a screaming eagle one. The real slim and small one, Long story short i had the exhaust stud nut come off and i re-used the old gasket. "My fault" But my question is which are better the o.e.m. gasket or the screaming eagle ones.

You need the SE on the D&D full exhaust. The stock ones are concave in shape and don't fit correctly with the D&D header which makes them seat wrong.

That's is what i wanted to hear.
I wonder if they can be doubled up to be a little thicker, Or would that cause a problem?

I dont think they could. It is pretty tight fit and my full D&D header doesnt even seat all the way down like the factory ones. I have had no problems so far with leaks except the stupid crossover connector which seems to leak no matter what I do. Any suggestions?????

The cross over connector will leak if the clamps don't cover the slits, Also you need to rotate the clamps and tighten them down then loosen and rotate and tighten down again.

Do this like 5 times and it will stop the leak.

If your exhaust nut came off it's likely an indicator that there is a "twist" in your exhaust system. That's a pre-cursor to breaking the studs.

Plan on re-hanging your exhaust system - I tighten from bottom up, others do from top down. The important thing is that you do it in sequence with everything lined up first.

The reason they vibrated of was i had the studs up-sized and the nuts that came with them need lock tight, The are a smooth base and have no way of locking on! It was my fault i didn't put any on them. So when it came off i just got some new nuts and re-used the gasket. which was a stupid move. So now i get to do a re-do yeah!

I actually got some new nuts, That are machine nuts and they are pressed at the top to make an oval hole so they cannot come off!

Can not tell you much about some of these after market HEADERS or MUFFLERS(cans or megaphones) except high db levels ...

All thought some have had trouble with getting the headers to seal against the head exhaust port gasket ... You must check the FLANGE to see if it is correct ...

The best exhaust gasket to use is the PN 17040-98 GASLET,exhaust ...

Some times "i" can reuse them a second time and if "i" turn them over a third time, of course now "i" am using a BMC Header ...

If you over tighten the header NUTS it will destroy the exhaust gasket and stress the exhaust header studs !!!

You put the ex. system together finger tight and TORQUE all the header nuts to 2 ft.lbs., then all of them to 4 ft. lbs., and then to 6 ft.lbs. ... They DO NOT need to be any tighter than 6 ft.lbs. ...

Been doing my exhaust system this way from the first time "i" took it off ...

Have never broken a exhaust stud and have 109,212.55 mile as of the last ride ...

6 Foot LBs ! That's very little more than finger-tight. I've been doing it wrong too.

So when these gaskets fail do they burn up? Or do they blow out the exhaust system?
I took it apart and there is no gasket there or any remnants of it.

Preybird1:

Myself, no failures with the GASKET,exhaust PN 17040-98 ...

Once the gasket gets distorted and gets an exhaust gas leak it acts just like when cut metal with oxygen ... It just burns the gasket, plus blows the gasket out to where there is no more gasket by this time you notice the sound and investigate ...

There's not a lot of material involved in those SE gaskets, and they're not leaded up like the stockers either, it probably crumbled, then broke up and blew out the pipe.

I need to call you, sorry I dropped off the face with that paint deal going on.
