case boring. a complete disassembly of the motor to have the cases bored out to fit the new bigger jugs/pistons.

IIRC the 30* means for stock sportster heads... but don't quote me on that.

30* squish means you have the heads cut for a 30* squish band, which can be done with almost any head. You'll want to do porting and larger valves on the heads for those pistons though. And you have to vote the cases.

thunder storms are 15*.

but they can be cut for 30*. no problem, since you will have the get some work done on those head to flow enough to handle the extra cc's. stock thunderstorms on a big bore would be one hell of a stump puller!

off topic a bit.. but I seem to remember something about the Blast's squish not matching up. Like the pistons are 10* and the heads 15*, or vice versa. It doesn't apply to the topic here since no Blast parts will be used, but that just crossed my mind and it's gonna bother me until I can remember what was different about the Blast ; )

EDIT: nevermind, I found it. It was early blasts that had lightning heads (10*) and thunderstorm pistons (15*) The source I'm reading also states that some pre-thunderstorm Buells had 10* squish in the heads, but flat-top pistons.

Pardon the interuption, just trying to add to that mental "encyclopedia" of all things Buell.

Yeah, the 10* squish in the lightning heads was just to raise the compression to 10:1 with the same flat-top pistons. They used those heads on the Blasts, '96-'98 S1, S3, M2, save the '98 S1 and S3T. The '96-'03 XL1200S Sportsters also used them, but in a dual-plugged form. I had one of those before I got the S2.
