1998 S-1W. Bought with a modded front shock mount and I'm now replacing with stock mount. How shold I go about doing this? Need tips and tricks.  | ||

Start with two jackstands, Put one under each footpeg, Raising the frame so that the Rear tire barley touchs the ground, The rest is just unbolting stuff to get at the mount. Hour and a half, maybe 2 to do the job. Depending on refreshment breaks. You do see that putting the stock mount on will raise the rear of the bike. (Message edited by 4DWUDS on April 22, 2010) | ||

what kind of swingarm is this? Does it have the same dimensions as the stocker? If so, the stock front mount will return you to correct height. For some reason it doesn't really look lowered in the pic to me. I also wonder why the PO mounted the SRP shock the "wrong" way. I would turn it around if you have to use it again. When you remove the bolts which hold the front shock mount to the engine, the engine will drop in the frame maybe 1/4 inch. I would suspend the engine with a strap from the frame before unbolting the mount to prevent this from happening. Does that make sense??? | ||

Make sure you remount the shock correctly when you replace. It is on backwards right now... | ||

I like the shock that way, Just paint it O.D. green, put some fins on it, well you get the idea.  | ||

Thanks guys, didn't know the shock was mounted backwards. I think it's a Cyclone shock too. The pic I posted is with the bike lowered 2 inches courtesy the modded front shock mount and fork tubes slid up 2". I've already returned fork tubes to stock height, now will be putting back the stock shock mount. So...jack stands under foot pegs and support the engine a little? Is it going to do me any good to put a swingarm stand on swingarm? It's a Spondon swingarm. | ||

That shock is the first generation, "fix" for the potential shock failure. You should replace that with the latest rear shock style, or with a Works or Penske from American Sportbike. You can't use a rear stand, because you need to let the swingarm pivot freely to remove the shock and front mount... I'm not sure about using stands under the footpegs, don't the footpegs fold up out ofthe way? | ||

You can use the footpeg mounts, if you position the jackstands carefully. Another method is a couple of ratchet straps to open garage rafters - hang it in a sling. | ||

No need to support the motor when you have it hanging by the pegs or straps from the rafters. The motor will hang from the front isolator and not move when you get it in the air. What Bart said, if you can, ditch that "SRP" (Shock Reinforcment Package) shock and at least get a later model remote reservoir version. | ||

Ok got these two additional shocks with bike purchase. Can you identify them? I don't even know where this resevoir hose comes or goes to?!!     | ||
