My 1999 S3T has been running flawlessly for the past year. Yesterday during a German ADAC training course, when making quick and panic stops, the motor would stumble and cough as if the float bowl was sloshing and stall out about half the time. The times it did not stall out, it popped and stumbled a bit before coming back online.

On the way home I had a real world panic stop when a smart car did something not very smart and she stumbled, coughed, popped and stalled. She restarted immediately and ran great all the way home.

Should I worry? If she were a carbed model I'd just chalk it up to slosh in the bowl, but as its injected I am at a loss. it is possible I am getting hyper sensitive to changes as I get closer to the big road trip in two weeks.

Thanks

Unless you were almost out of gas, I would think it might be an electrical connection instead of fuel. Your fuel system is pressurized by the fuel pump and these things should not affect fuel delivery (again unless you are almost out of fuel and the pump is starving).Try checking all your ignition connections, plug wires etc.

Also check your fuel filter. If it's plugged, you can get the "slosh" effect in the filter itself causing a stall.

You have hit the nail I think. The general consensus, both here and on UKBEG is that less than a 1/3 tank of fuel and a maybe clogged filter would create the above complaint.

I'll check it after work tonight.

Sorry for all the drama, problem solved. It was very low fuel. Turns out I had less than 1/8 of a tank. Even though my trip meter only showed 135 miles, they were hard miles and many hours spent at low speed not racking up big mileage. This morning I sputtered into the Gas Station and took 5+ gallons.

Thank you everyone for your help, I seem to have panicked over nothing.
