Last night I was futsing around with my choke cable and the darn plastic piece that both helps hold the choke on to the mounting location and also holds the choke open/closed snapped. So of course, I need to replace it. I see that I can get one from American Sport Bike, but its the same plastic piece.

Does anyone know what after-market choke assemblies there are out there? I'd like something that is made from aluminum preferably.
Thanks!

Welcome to the club!
Couldn't find anything either, replaced with stock, until then. (and lesson learned.)

I found this. This is just for a mount on the carb, but he also has a cable available to fit.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARLEY-DAVIDSON-40M M-CV-CARBURETOR-CUSTOM-CHOKE-MOUNT_W0QQitemZ270543 107636QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accesso ries?hash=item3efda03634#ht_1082wt_940

Has anyone mounted the cable to the carb? I t looks like it would be a little less convenient, but looks much nicer. Of course you go from spending $14 on replacing the part to $25 for the mount and 18.50 for the new cable.

Thoughts?

I don't think they will clear our frame.

i put a fireblade choke cable on my 99 M2,
i cut and soldered the end to fit the carb and made an L bracket to fit under the top of the clutch lever pivot bolt,if you have no mirrors or bar end mirrors you could use the mounting hole to mount the bracket, the choke end looks like its a front brake adjuster from a race bike, and is easier to use than when placed under the tank,

you could take lower resolution pics on your camera. I usually don't take anything bigger than 640 x 480.

feel free to email me the pix and I will re-size them. Or, open up the original photo and save a copy of it, re-named, in MS Office Picture Manager; in Picture Mgr, go to "Picture" tab at top menu bar, click on "Resize." You will have a sidebar pop up on the right; choose "pre-defined H x W," and select the size you want the photo to be from the drop-down selections. Click ok at the bottom, save your image as a smaller copy of the original.

Try different sizes - I can't remember which one is best for badweb posts, but the site won't let you upload large pix anyway.

To load a photo, type this in:

\image {insert some simple title here of your choosing}

but do it without the space I put in between image and the bracket (I put the space there so it would not think I was actually trying to insert a photo). Make sure you use the right slash and the right brackets.

Preview your post, then post it, and once you do that, before it posts, you will be asked to select the photo you want to upload. Select that file, and you are good to go.

or mail em to me - c h britton @ yahoo . com
(w/o spaces)

What year Fireblade? Or does it matter? Very creative. I'd like to do that to mine one day.

i think its 1999 the last year with carbs,
i would have thought there was other ones that would fit,i just went to my local bike dealer, they had a look through a spares box full of choke cables and that one was the nearest to what i wanted,
its far easier than reaching under the tank and you can slowly adjust it as the bike warms up while on the move,

I would like to hook it up to the mounting hole where the standard mirrors were. How would one go about and do this?

Perezda, the bolt size for the standard mirror is a 10 mm x 1.25 thread. I've been looking for a button head screw to fill mine with. Not much luck yet. I can only find bolts that are too long or have 1.5 thread (course). If you can find the correct both, maybe you can move the stock choke mount to the handlebar.

I should have listened to Cyclonecharlie. The choke bracket didn't work (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARLEY-DAVIDSON-40M M-CV-CARBURETOR-CUSTOM-CHOKE-MOUNT_W0QQitemZ270543 107636QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accesso ries?hash=item3efda03634#ht_1082wt_940 ). But it did clear the frame. The issue was that the routing of the choke cable got in the way of the bracket that holds the carb on the bike, and (this would not be everyone's issue) the choke knob hit my hard lined breather tube. I just installed it and like it, so the bracket looses.
If I could have bypassed those 2 issues, it would have worked.

When mine broke on my 02 M2 I went to the HD dealer and picked out the smallest cable they had. I think it was for an 883. It measured about a 1/2 longer than the Buell cable.

Joker Machine used to make a clutch cable with and aluminum head they listed on their Buell parts. i haven't been on their site in several years so don't know if it's still available.

I like the bar mounted choke, that's very slick! Good thinking and improvisation there V74.
