Do I need an exhaust mount here, and if so, what do y'all recommend?

Yea, there should be a mount there, and your also missing the tie bar in the front of the engine.

His tie bar is behind the clutch cable.
He is however missing the exhaust mount.

That is the original 2000 and back mount.
It has tow rubber dingies and a steel sleeve.
I think American Sportbike sells the rubber dingies and steel tubes.

The new mount is better. It branches out to form an upside down Y.

If you choose to upgrade to the new mount, you will have to remount the voltage regulator and play with the rear shock mount.
I think the kit was under $100 back in the day.

I'm not sure how to connect either the new one or the old one to that shiny noisemaker you got there : )

You really do need to support the pipe there though.
It's putting undue stress on your header bolts and rear mounting.

Whatever you figure out, I would suggest figuring it out soon!

You could probably run a strap around the front section of pipe, ahead of the last bend, then use some springs to attach it to that front muffler mount. Paint them black and they'll look like they're supposed to be there.

Just a suggestion if you are in the same economy fix mode I am these days.

As Nate said, fix it before you break stuff that will really suck, like the exhaust header studs.

The VR is near the rear of the bike close to the battery.

The Y mount will not work either, the header is too far away. I cannot see what type of clamp that is but it is mounted on the wrong side of the bike. If you can move it then you will be able to use the Y mount. I am pretty sure you cannot get the rubber bushings that you are missing from the original muffle mount but you may be able to find a replacement at a auto parts store.

Here is what it should look like along with the Y mount.

Al list the rubber bushings on his web site but the last time I tried to get them he dod not have them. I do not remember if they were out of stock or not carried anymore.

"i" like the idea of the VR in the COOL AIR slip stream and not behind the rear cylinder in the heat!!!

Dang, I knew I should have bought that black Force exhaust that was in the classified a little while back! This might be a good summer for a complete tear down and clean up.

Thanks for the help so far. If anyone can find a complete Force exhaust system, I think I want one.
