was never done on my new-to-me S1w. Am I SOL w/ Harley dealers now getting this done?

If is is a safety recall, I believe they will still honor the recall with installation, free of charge. I just had my 2000 M2 done in mid-December 2009. Same situation; I'm not the original owner, the PO never had the recall performed.

Call a H-D Buell support dealer and have your VIN in hand. They will run the number and tell you if they will replace it. Good luck.

I'll be interested to find out what the "Showa recall" was. Here are the only two on file with the feds for a 1998 S1W.

Consequence:
THIS CONDITION CAN PREVENT THE FRONT WHEEL FROM ROTATING INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPAIR THESE MOTORCYCLES.
