Thanks Frank. 23 years, 10 months and 12 days I'll never get back, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I will miss the people though.

I only did 22 years and would have only done about 20.5 if 9/11 did not happened. I got stuck on stop loss like many other AFSCs.

I miss the people as well. I work with military now but no one from my back ground. Of course I just need to go across the parking lot to AFSPC to run into old friends.

As shallow as this sounds, Facebook has been great for connecting to old friends from the early years (before the Internet and email).

Did you start working again?

I hear ya Frank. I would have done 20 and punched out, but I went and made Master. Two year service commitment from the day I sewed on got me to 23 and change. I won't be able to get away from the old haunts and people for a while. My wife works at the bank on base. I was the Swing shift Flight Sergeant for the cops so I'll see my kids almost every time I go through the gate. Facebook has been a cool tool for getting in touch with old friends/coworkers.

No job as yet, but I don't final out until the 12th. I have some apps in and friends are always telling me of other leads. One thing I know is I won't be working as a civilian for the Squadron I'm retiring from. Too many mouth breathing knuckle draggers running the show!

Pete. I totally gapped on the seat. We got too busy on IMS weekend. Its still in a box in the car. At this point should I just bring it in May? Or ship anyway?

Plans are firming up. Looking at Mapquest at work today, I see:
By car and trailer:
May 7th Spokane
8th Pocatello, Idaho
9th Grand Junction, Co(?)
10th Frank's (around Pueblo?)
11th Amarillo
By bike:
12th to 14th heading for Leakey
16th or 17th Austin
19th heading for New Orleans
22nd or 23rd heading for Amarillo
That's 2100 miles of straight riding, plus having fun at the Two-Step
By car:
27th arrive Idaho Falls, via Albequerque(?)
28th Spokane
29th home

How's that for a plan?!!!

Obviously, with three days to get from Amarillo to Leakley, there is some flexibilty built in.

Does trailering Pete down and Pete hanging with us or finding his own way home sound good? Shame about Janel but you get to be crazy and ride!

Denny and co going to hang with us in Austin? We may pass on New Orleans if it takes more than two days to see Austin. LOL.

Looking some more, could we go from Amarillo through Austin, arriving Thursday night to pick up the Texan gang, then get to Leakey for Friday? And return again to Austin after?

Eric, I have a question unrelated to S2s. If I loan my trailer to a friend and he drives up to Canada with it registered in my name would that be a problem at the border? I remember you telling me your ordeal when you bought the S2 but he is not buying anything.

Looks like you plan better than I do. I may be trailering down with you, at least to Amarillo if Ross's Dad is cool with another truck and trailer in his yard or all the way to Leaky depending on how many bikes I take.

BTW: I live between Pueblo and Colorado Springs. When time gets closer we will make arrangements to make contact so I can tell you about a way to bypass Pueblo (assuming you will be coming in on HWY 50 from Grand Junction and a way to bypass downtown Fountain (although there is not much to it) to get to our house easier.

I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to this.

I asked a border guard a hypothetical question about me riding a friend's bike up and I was told that that would not be allowed. On the other hand, a co-worker regularly does just that, riding a bike registered to her boyfriend, into the country. So what is technically banned vs what they would actually get worked up about is difficult to say. If you like, I could ask them next time I'm across the border, which will be in a week or two, I think. A trailer here needs a license plate and insurance.

Eric,

No worries. I got my seat back from Loren and it is beautiful! As for the itinerary, I may have to leave later and go faster/longer on the way down/back. Depends on if/when I get a job. Lord willing and the river don't rise I'll see you all in May.

Eric, do not worry about that, we decided to register the trailer in my friends name to avoid any hassles. He is doing the Hoka Key run (http://www.hokaheychallenge.com/) and will use the trailer to haul his bike down to FL and as a parts trailer after that.

We have been working on getting his bike ready and he got a few sponsors with the latest gear. It sounds like a great adventure.

$500G! For real? That'll keep him focused. It looks like the Iron Butt times ten. Or a hundred. Is anyone doing it on a Buell?

Quick bump and update: I got sidetracked tonight looking at a car and doing a couple things, so I didn't get an updated list for Jay done tonight. Current list will come tomorrow. In the meantime, everyone just think what these roads will be like.

Lynn will not be able to make it. She started a new job and has limited vacation time so she had to choose between the S2 Gathering and Homecoming (she is from WI so Homecoming it is). Look out Texas, party time LOL.

Looks like a great group of Buellers.

I almost freaked out when I first read that, Frank- I thought it said Lynn "and I". Too bad that Lynn won't make it, but I guess that means more fun riding for Frank!

Tim Ivanoff (Smoke)
Frank Skinner (F_skinner)
Tom McCarroll (Road_thing)

Looking forward to this, and being able to put faces to some of these user names, I have seen for years, my wife Sandy will also be riding out with me, we are somewhat local, 4 hrs away, and a part of the Hill Country Hellbuellies.

Howdy Fellow S2 Steppers!
It’s getting’ to be ‘bout that time; a short 46 days ‘til the Texas S2 Step kicks off down here in Leakey. We got some awesome riding ahead of us! Everybody got their cabins reserved?

Wanted to run something by y’all and get your opinions. At all of our "Thrills In The Hills" rides out there, we’ve always supplied a couple of dinners (typically steaks, salads, grilled chicken, spaghetti, burgers, etc.) and a couple of breakfasts (typically eggs, bacon, migas, sweet rolls, fruit, etc.) on-site, as well as some incidental snacks and drinks (soft). The advantages are:
1. Hungry folks don’t have to go searching for victuals
2. Cheaper than restaurants…and you don’t have to tip Denny!
3. It keeps the group together for more talkin’, drinkin’, bull$hittin’ around the campfire, etc.
4. If you’re drinkin’, you can simply crawl to your cabin and pour yourself into bed (unless you’ve had too many of Kosmic Carl’s Tangerito’s.....Dawg!)
The only real disadvantage is that meals will be served at a certain time (‘though people have always had a tendency to come-and-go a little bit…and I’m always late for breakfast!)

Lunches have always been on-yer-own, ‘cuz you’ll be out riding somewhere anyway (I’ll have a list of restaurants in Leakey and surrounding towns for everybody).
If this sounds good to ya, we’d need everybody to pony up some moola to pay for all the stuff we bring out. We’ve used Paypal before, but can do cash at the site as well. I’m thinking (ballpark) about $20.00 per person (easy to spend on a single meal in a restaurant) would probably cover it.
If we decide yes, I’ll put together some menus for approval and have a completely accurate amount.
Whattay’allthink?

HellBuelly Jay
