Just checking. the supertrapp muffler on my S2 sounds good, not too loud, not too soft....But...

. The current vance and hines on my M2 is just too loud, even with repacking. So......I am looking for a supertrapp that would fit my 97 m2. Thanks, REX

Funny, there seems to be so much variety: for example, my supertrapp (older style, I guess, with discs off the back, not internal) on my S2 is louder than the V&H CF pipe on the S1W. But as noted above by others, it's about the discs: the S2T's supertrapp has (count 'em!) 24 discs. So yeah, it's loud. But I'm concerned that if I pull off too many to quiet it down, the bike may start to run too rich. These tunable exhausts are great, that is until they tell you that the optimal number of discs for performance produces a sound you are not happy with (too loud or not loud enough) - either does not make for a happy rider.
BTW, all posts tonight from me are to be taken with a huge grain of salt, due to inebriosis alcoholis, er whatever.

It has a great note and has all the low end of the stocker and the top end of the race exhaust I had on it before.

I get a strong smell of gas when starting the bike up so I will be rebuilding the carb again. It is not as strong when running or after shut down. I cannot see any gas leaking but the smell is real strong. It could be running rich but I have not checked the plugs yet... More stuff to do LOL

I've got a Supertrapp like Frank shows...I think I have 24 discs and the endplate for it. Last I ran it, I think I had 12 or 15 installed with the endcap.

I pulled it, though, because it sounded blatty to me. I replaced it (still a stock S2 header) with a Buell 2.5" race can, and an automotive 2" to 2.5" adapter collar. Nice, deep, mellow rumble now : )

If anyone is interested in the 'trapp, send me a note. I wasn't going to bother selling it - spares are always good - but being unemployed at the moment, spare money is better! Only thing I don't have is the hanging straps - I think. I'm pretty sure I re-used them for the race can, but they were just flat steel with a hole in each end. I can measure and template for the buyer if they want...

And Frank? I smell a ton of gas around my S2 as well. I think my vent tube is working *very* well - no leaks here either, and a good running mixture. And with the XB rockerboxes, much less "burning oil" smell, too! : )

My M2, the bike that I want to put the supertrapp on has the following. Thunderstorm heads and pistons, S1 cams, Mikuni carb.

The S2 is bone stock. It has 10 rings plus the first setting ring and the end cap.

I think the S2 takes a different exhaust set up than the M2 and S1 from what I understand. Difference in header and collector, right? thanks, REX

Yes, the difference is, the S2 header is a 2" collector, pointed straight back. The rest of the tubers had a header collector pointed *across* the bike, putting the last elbow (where the exhaust turns towards the back) on the muffler. Early stock headers were 2"; later (thunderstorm) headers were 2.5" collectors.

The 'trapp that Frank and I have (and others, I'm sure) is a straight-inlet, 2" muffler. The elbow is made into the S2 header. If you want to change headers, though, any early S-bend style header will work, and get you a more "mainstream" collector position/size.

I run the Buell race muffler on my S2, with the 2" header. It's a little quieter than the same muffler, with 2.5" race header, on my S1W (both engines are Thunderstorm heads/pistons/cams, and Buell Race ignition). Nice thing about the Race muffler is, you can open it up and repack it with more/less material to tune the sound somewhat. Neither one is annoying, though....at least not to me : )

Another option is the internal disc supertrapp, which was a slip-on "race" muffler from Buell years ago. I ran one on my M2 years ago and it does not require the race header - the muffler has the elbow built in. I ran it with NO discs, endcap only, and jetted to match. LOVED it. Without going to a race header...that may be your best bet.
