Howdy, I'd put this in the knowledge vault but I kinda need a quick answer if possible. My setup: S2, edelbrock RPM performer package (heads n cams), dyna 2000 ignition, mikuni hsr42 carb. my bike was running ok with 27.5 idle jet, 160 main. Now that I replaced all topend gaskets, my bike runs really rough and won't idle. (i may have fixed a leak?) I dropped down to a 25 idle jet but bike still wont idle (air screw doesnt affect idle nor does idle adjuster knob). The bike actually will idle with the choke on, but runs rough. I can get the bike to idle with constant throttle input. Any thoughts/ideas? The weather here is perfect and I am eager to ride! |

check for an intake leak |

or if you left a vacum nipple off |

The VOES line to the carb is capped off - no leaks there. I checked the intake for leaks using wd-40 and carb cleaner while the bike was running (with choke on). I also removed the carb and placed my hand over the intake, solid suction and holds for several seconds. If there is a vacuum leak it is tiny. I also tried startig the bike with a #40 pilot jet (i know, waaaay too big). I did take apart the carb and examined the air-screw oring. It is in bad shape. I will replace it. Tomorrow I will double check the timing but I know this didn't altered. |

itake checks should be done with no choke but if you got no flucuation , i would check fuel flow next could just be a coincidence , also you say idle screw is not making a change when you adjust it? |

Thanks for the input Dinuns; Bike only runs with choke on. When I take off the choke RPMS die and the bike stutters. I can get it to run if I hold the throttle slightly open. Fuel flow is fine, I even cleaned out the screen in the petcock. Idle screw makes NO difference. Neither does the idle airfuel mixture screw. All the way in or all the way out. I am suspecting it is the small oring that seals the slow speed mixture screw. |

hmm doesnt sound likely but its possible one other thing ive seen is make sure the carb is seated in the intake manifold in the compliance seal |

Howdy Zt, I had a problem like this with my S2 and mikuni and found a small tear/rip in the carb intake seal to the manifold. It was small and difficult to see/notice without removing and inspecting it closely. Be sure you have you intake manifold aligned properly so not to put stress on the carb seal etc. Good luck. |

howdy back at cha... The seal is new :-). no tears. New eldebrock intake seals (off topic, but that is a horrible intake design). I will get back at it tomorrow. Plan is to replace that oring and check timing. Maybe see about a smaller idle jet |

Zt, getting back at it tomorrow is probably the best way to go.......it will run just FINE soon. |

It is either intake seals or your slow jet is clogged. It should idle with no choke. |

Thats 2 opinions on intake seals... I have to remove one of my heads to get to my intake seals (edelbrock intake)....The cheap part of me says to rip it apart and reuse my cometic head gasket -brand new-...the reasonable part of me says to order new ones? |

Tore the bike apart: Intake gaskets looked good. Put it back together with a 20 slow jet. Bike runs perfectly. Other than a little bit of leaking (i reused gaskets) its perfect now. Thanks for the help |
