So as a spring gift to my X1 I purchased a D&D full system. Going to start install tomorrow. Figured I would change the primary and engine oil while the exhaust is off to make my life easier. I purchased the SE exhaust gaskets already and currently run the updated "Y" exhaust bracket.
Any install tips or suggestions before I tackle it? I wonder how it sounds compared to my stock header and D&D slip on. I noticed the muffler is quite a bit shorter.

Installation for me was pretty simple.

You need the Y front hanger, if your bike didn't come stock with it.

There are two little nibs sticking out of the bottom of the header tubes. Make sure these are seated all the say up against the intermediate pipe. They are your guide to proper depth of insertion.

Get everything snug, then tighten up the exhaust nuts on the heads. Start the bike, and let it shake everything for a bit. If there is something on a bind, you want it to unbind now, rather than after you get it all clamped down and you end up breaking exhaust studs or something. Shut off the bike and tighten up the pipe to intermediate pipe clamps, and finally the band clamp (sleeve clamp?) that hold the can to the swingarm mounting block. The rear clamp on mine was fairly tight out of the box, I had to back it off in order to slide/spin the can in the sleeve.

You're going to love it by the way. Best money I ever spent on my X1.

The polished version and the fake TI version are on ebay right now. I made an offer less than the asking price and it was dropped shipped from D&D in 3 days!

Looks great. Let us know how you make out...
I don't think I have heard anyone regret getting one.

I've had two mufflers rust on me. Take some anti-rust precautions and enjoy.
