Author Message   14d Posted on Thursday, March 04, 2010 - 04:41 pm:        Tax return should be here soon, so I'll be ordering the parts to rebuild my fork shortly. I will be upgrading the springs to the RaceTech ones but I'm unsure which rate springs to order. I'm 6'3" 200 lbs right now (without gear), but would like to get to 220 in the future. According to the calculator on RaceTech's website a .95 kg/mm is recommended for street use, but a 1.0 would be recommended for race use. If street, would you consider yourself an aggressive street rider? My thoughts would be the .95s. I am 200 lbs, and I had both .95 and 1.0 springs in my last forks. I liked the 1.0s, but I don't ride on the street. I think that they will be a little too harsh for the street. They work very well compared to the OEM 0.95's in my '97 Cyclone. My preload actually now allows the adjusters to protrude above the fork cap. I'm 6'-3" ~210 LBs. One thing to keep in mind is that the change in spring rate won't make a huge difference in the ride. For that, you'll want to consider a valving kit/shimp-pack and adjust the oil level and/or viscosity to best suit your preferences.   14d Posted on Friday, March 05, 2010 - 05:16 pm:        Whoops, didn't see your post Erik. I would consider myself a pretty aggressive street rider, I do commute a good bit but the real riding is done in the twisties (and in the near future, at track days). I have a bit of experience rebuilding and tuning mountain bike forks but have never changed the spring rate in them. However based on my preferences and after talking to someone at racetech I think the 1.0s are the right choice. I was going to get the valving kit but don't have the coin for it right now. Hopefully 10wt oil and playing with the oil level will be good enough for now.
