I purchased a newer style X1 shifter a while back but it did not include any hardware. Can anyone with a parts book give me any idea what parts I need to mount it. I know I need a long bolt and a spacer at the minimum. Specs on the spacer and bolt would be great, maybe I could source them from a hardware store!

Onebadx1 has been trying to help by sending me the instruction sheet for the update kit but the scans are too big for email. Anyone have a parts list?

That is the right order except for the rubber spacers. The small one goes on the shift shaft between the lever and case cover. The large one goes on the peg mount where the old style shifter bushing would ride.

Thanks for the pics and the email. Now the question is if I am not running a chin fairing do I need all that crap or is there an easier way?

Get a machine shop to make you a spacer to the same dimensions as the two mounting block pieces (with the big rubber spacers) and you won't need all that crap.

But you'll need to be more specific as to which crap you were referring to, exactly?

Shouldn't need the rubber spacers without the chin fairing, that's how I ran my X1 shifter for a few years until I got the fairing.

i relocated my 99 M2 footpegs about 1in up and 1in back,then fitted an updated X1 shifter,but i had to trim the lever by about 1in,and replace the toe peg,
could i get away with using the front of the two holes instead of the rear one to mount the lever?this would place an modified lever toe peg just where i need it,

I did the exact same thing with mine, wondered about the forward bolt position a well. Too late now, but it would change the angles on the linkage, no idea if it would be enough to bung up shifting.

I am following this thread, trying to use an ebay X1 shifter on my S3T. I may try to use the forward hole as well. Shortening the shift lever is also what I was considering. I have the bolt which is too long and the spacer which fits inside the shift lever. Buying the correct shifter is not out of the question. Just trying to save a buck. Thanks to all for the pics and info, very helpful.

For what it's worth.....

Part #49092-01Y fits:'99-'02 X1 and '96-'98 S1 and S1W (those were the instructions I sent you)

Part #49074-01Y fits: '97-'02 M2 and S3 models without faring lowers.

I would think you would want the 074 kit hardware. You need to find the parts list for that kit, then you could order those individual parts as needed. I do not have those instructions. You may even try to call Harley or maybe ask "Court" here on the Badweb. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the help! The photos are great. I am just wondering without the chin spoiler if I can just run a shorter bolt with an collar type spacer. By looking at the pictures I will at least need the spacer that fits inside of the shifter.

Here is a pic of rubber spacers. The forward hole is covered by the clutch cable. You can see with an X1 shifter it has to be spaced out enough from the case, so the linkage end of the shifter clears the cable. You could shorten a X1 shifter, cut drill and tap it and use it on a S3.

Here's a cut and polished X1 shifter as described above. The stock tab can be removed then put in your new tapped hole. You customize it for an exact placement too, which is nice, just don't place the new hole too far back towards your cut, that can be a pain to fix. Bronze Oil Lite bushings from a.s.b. removed a lot of slop.

I thought the X1 shifter would work without mod due to my footpeg relocators, found out I was wrong.





I agree after looking at the pictures, forward mounting position may interfere with the clutch cable, someone want to try it and let us all know?

Went to Harley to price parts. The metal bushing closest to the shifter $30. The inner one is $8. I am not using the lower fairing so I just need to find a metal bushing that is the correct size for the shaft side.

Dblast was correct about the rubber "spacers"; small one on the shifter shaft next to the case and the larger one fills the space left behind on the foot peg once the original linkage is removed.
Impala, as for the metal bushing, R u referring to the bushing which slips inside the linkage pivot point, with the long screw going right through it? If so, you're probably stuck with HD part since those dimensions are very exact. Otherwise the pivot will bind. Of course if you have access to a machine shop you could probably have one made.
Let me know if you need the exact dimensions.
