Trying to figure out if installing the race ecm will actually improve my bikes performance. When I bought the bike it came with the race ecm uninstalled brand new in the box. I have a K&N filter, PC3, and will be running a D&D exhaust. The bike is a 99 S3T.

The PC3 should be ditched and the race ECU should be installed.
TPS reset and you're good to go.

Yes it will help - not for peak hp, but in removing the mid range dip in the curve. You will need ECM Spy or Scanalyzer though...

And yes, ditch the POS 3!

With just a K&N and D&D, the Race ECM maps should be near optimum. You could use the ECMSPY to just smooth out the idle but you definitely need to reset the TPS after you switch the ECM.

thanks.........after reading the above post i went and checked out the ecmspy website and that definately looks to be above my level. I think I can manage switching out the ecm and disconnecting the PC3

99% chance it will run like crap without doing the TPS reset.

"...checked out the ecmspy website and that definitely looks to be above my level. "

It depends on ho much you want to use it...
Once you have the program loaded and working, doing a TPS reset and checking the trouble codes are very easy. Playing around with the fuel/timing maps may need a little more precision but still fairly simple. If you find someone near you with the program, TPS reset only takes five minutes.
