I had a thread many moons ago about replacing with a 139db Stebel airhorn, pics and all. Man is it loud but it looks as though I have more room behind my (X1) flyscreen than you do. It can be taken apart, split in two, and the small compressor ('bout the size of a can of pop) mounted somewhere and the horn somewhere else then connected with a piece of tubing. I got mine for $50 shipped to the door with all related hardware; ie, relay, wiring and connectors. I'll see if I can't locate the thread somewhere.

I bought a Blast! horn (XB is probably the same) and put it under the seat. The new horn is much louder than the X1 horn ever was, and it doesn't stop working when it gets wet.

Mike- I'll try to take a pic of mine tonight. I mounted an XB horn (smaller) on a custom made bracket that bolts to the ignition....tucking it up under the tank, but still open to the air for loud sound.

Matt, your X1 looks beautiful in yellow. Is that a factory color?

Matt, I see you also got rid of the battery...you can't just remove EVERYTHING that's ugly : p (ahem, rear fender, ahem). Besides, it's illegal in most states (if not all) to not run a horn.

Anyway, here's mine:

A little closer:

And how the world sees it:

It's a good, loud horn, and a simple mod.

Kevin- I bought them a little banged up from another BadWebber, which I didn't care about because I wanted to paint them anyway. I used to see them all over eBay, but could not find them on a quick search this morning. They are exactly what I was looking for- metal housing, glass lenses, halogen bulbs, and the right width. I didn't like any of the aftermarket light brackets available, so I modified a set of factory ones- they fit perfect between them. Thanks for the comment- I plan to someday do a write up on some of my mods, since they seem to address some of the things that many people like to do to their bikes...like this and the ignition switch location....someday...
