ive never adjusted my primary... nor changed the fluid in ownint the bike for about 10k miles...

but im starting to think that now the weather is warming up and im going to be commuting the same amount, but also throwing in some mountain runs here soon, it may be a good idea to do a little bit of servicing to get the most out of the bike while wearing it the least...

ive noticed over the last couple of months that when i shift from 2nd to 3rd i seem to hit some kind of "neutral" and miss shift... can this be remedied by a primary adj and fluid change? and is there a diy?

These are basic maintenance tasks with a required schedule. Check your fsm for details. Then check the kv for tips not found in the book.
Adjusting the chain may clean up your shifting, may not. If the bike ever fell on the left side or if someone stomped/banged gears you may have other issues. Best to start with the easiest stuff... like a chain adjustment. Changing the fluid will help you on the road to long life but won't fix mechanical problems, if indeed you have any.

How many miles are on the bike? Is that your only shifting problem? How often are you getting the false neutral?

When you change your primary fluid keep your eye out for pieces of the clip that holds your detent plate on (search the Knowledge Vault for info on this). These are prone to failure and will cause symptoms much as you described when they go.

+1 "keep your eye out for pieces of the clip that holds your detent plate on"

broken pieces of that clip can find their way behind the rotor, and chew up the wiring on your stator as well. DAMHIK

i have no clue how many miles are on the bike, during the xb wheel change the PO did, the speedo stopped working, im guessing as to how many miles ive put on it based on my commute each day for the last few months

There is an S-1 manual in the knowledge vault. You need to check and see if your primary adjuster shoe has been updated to newer,stronger unit. Oil change and chain adjust is fast and simple.
