I noticed that the arm on the shifter shaft is rubbing on the starter ring gear on the clutch basket, i have been told this is a common problem , i replaced the shifter arm bush that sits in the crankcase but its still rubbing. the clutch basket bearing is also new, does anyone have a fix for the problem ?

Is that part assembled wrong? Could you get away with tweaking it a little? |

turns out the mounting plate was very slightly bent, i also made my own bush on the lathe (slightly longer than the oem part) which tightens everything up, so with the bush and straightened plate it seems to have solved it. Tightening up could also have been obtained by placing a thicket washer under the circlip that mounts the bush to the shaft but i had to do it the long way round by making a new bush !! hello to fellow uk buell rider, while you have it in pieces i remember reading about a mod on here where the edge of the shifter arm is ground down just taking the edge off where the arm touches the shifter detent plate, this makes it shift smoother(apparently)not done it my self but might be worth you looking up the post on here??? |

Set your primary chain at 3/4 inch on the tight spot as a too tight primary chain will pull the front of the clutch basket in towards the shifter shaft arm ... PRIMARY CHAIN and DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT 101 available upon request, just e-mail me ... |

Noticed last night that the mainshaft ball bearing in the gearbox cover has a small amount of play in it and as Buellistic said this wont help things when the chain is under tension. In the manual it sais a complete gearbox stripdown is needed to remove the shaft from the bearing with a press. is there a method of replacing the bearing without a complete stripdown. also does anyone know the bearing number ?
