I like to have spare electricals ready and am looking at getting an aftermarket coil just in case. Any recommendations? And a few questions I have: 1. Is the 1998 S-1W stock coil a dual or single fire ? 2. What OHM rating-2.3, 3.0, or 4.7? They seem to be the most prevelant. 3. Will the use of aftermarket wires (Taylor Sumax) affect what OHM rating I should purchase? | ||

Stock coils, Buell and HD, are all dual fire. Dunno on the ohm's, sorry...but I'd suspect you don't need to worry about wire choice, they should have a minor enough variance. | ||

The H-D Screaming Eagle coil is a high performance coil that fits, is compatible with the ignition module and is reasonably priced. When used with spark plug cables of not less that 200 ohms and resistor spark plugs of about 5k ohms, one can have a fairly high performance, low cost ignition system. Regardless, an aftermarket coil should not have less primary resistance than the stocker otherwise there is the risk of burning out the ignition module. If in doubt, measure the stock coil resistance and make sure that an aftermarket coil reads the same. Aftermarket plug cables should have little bearing on the ohm rating of a coil. |
