Going to add the saddlebag mounting brackets this winter in hope of finding some saddlebags someday. Which mount works the best? Can you mount S2 bags on the conversion mount? From what I have seen there seem to be more of the S3 bags around than the S2 bags. | ||

Kevin, The bag mounting is very different between the S2 and S3. You would have to have bags to match the mount. The S3 bags are far better bags than the S2 bags and there does seem to be more of them available used. The S2 does require a special S3 conversion bag mount. The S3 mount apparently does not fit. Loren Thats what I was thinking but wanted to get some input from you all before making the purchase. I found the S2 conversion bracket part # awhile back. It is L1025.8. Thanks Kevin Now to make sure I cam find one. | ||

L1025.8 still comes up as active...but it's a hair over $400! I'll get some pictures of my modified S2 brackets; basically I added a link from the existing support bar, forward and down to the passenger footpeg. It supports the bottom of the bag and has a HD FLH saddlebag dzus fastener through the bottom of the bag itself, to locate it to the bracket. I get nearly no 'flap' out of the bags now, even with my wide lids on. Frank followed Kim and I around the 25th Homecoming and can verify that my bags don't move around much at all anymore. And...by removing the passenger peg nuts, I can still pop the whole bag support system off the bike, just like before (although I have yet to go bagless on it). | ||

Remember when S2 bags and mounts come up,they are very special and should be treated that way. The S2 bags are better matched and developed to match the lines of an S2. The S3 bags are not! | ||

I do like the looks of the S2 bags as well. They look like they belong. When you put the bigger lids (S2 or S3) they look out of place but very functional. On a long trip I will take function over form any day. My bag (deep lid) flew open on the way to Homecoming (the 25th) on the highway during rush hour. What fun. One thing is for sure is you will know it if they open. I thought someone had hit me.... Lynn and I stopped so I could pickup our belongings that went all over the road. Soon after the police showed up. Police: Don't you know it is dangerous to walk on the highway during rush hour? Me: Yes, that is why I was running!!! | ||

I noticed someone at Homecoming with the bags open on their S3T so I took a look. Man I need me some of that strapage to hold stuff in the bag just in case...    | ||

Frank - thanks for posting those pics, I'd forgotten I took those way back when  FWIW, since then I've added an extra set of the little cable lid tethers to the saddlebags. Same tethers that keep the lids from opening too far, but I've attached them to top-center of the black inner part of the saddlebag. The other end goes to one of the knurled nuts (again, same part that's inside the bag) on the lid. Keeps 'em from spreading luggage all over the highway like Frank and Lynn  To open the bag, I just pop the loop off the knurled nut on the lid, unlock like usual, and all my stuff falls on the ground LOL. Once I lock the bags shut, I pop that loop over the nut and it stays put. I did mount the lid nut "inside-out", with the small end facing out, so I can slip the loop on and off. I have a nut mounted to each of my 4 lids, too, so I don't have to on/off the nut every time and risk damaging the paint. The cables are a Buell part (discontinued, unfortunately), but the nuts are from Home Depot in the electrical aisle; I think they're used to hold globes onto ceiling lights.  | ||

Thanks for the help guys. Based on what I have found so far I may go with the S3 bags and mount just due to the availability of S3 bags. But I must agree the S2 narrow bags look the best. Kevin | ||
