Here's the project off the top of my head, it's really not that bad at all, might take you an hour or so, if you are slow.

M2 Dash and tach?

Did your new tach come with a plug for the harness or just wires with pins for the harness?

-Remove seat.

-Remove rear tank mounting hardware (1/2" on my bike). Unhook the front tab and gently set aside.

(You can make sure the fuel is off then disconnect the fuel line from the petcock and try not to flop it around too much and spill any fuel still in the line if you want the tank out of the way. Nice thing about this is if you put it on the garage floor it won't fall off and get scratched or anything.)

Ignition removes fairly easily, I tapped a screwdriver with a mallet to get the ring loose, standard thread direction.

-Remove current dash (two hex screws).

-Trace your wires to the harness and plug, then snip off all zip ties along the way, then unplug the harness and remove the dash/speedo.

-Remove speedo from dash (two long bolts pass through the rear of the cup, undo the nuts and the speedo should come out, try not to tear the foam ring or you'll have to wait 7-10 days for the dealer to get one in).

-Install speedo and tach in the new dash.

You can just use the wires in the receiving side of the plug (harness) to determine where they tach wires need to go into the plug from your speedometer.

-Gently push them (pin connectors) into the plug and it should click when seated, you can see how the little prongs engage if you look at them before installing them.

Don't freak if you do put a pin in the wrong slot it's not a big deal, just gently press the prong down with a very small screw driver, large safety pin, or straight dental pick.

-Install ignition in the new dash.

-Plug in your harness and make sure the tach lights up, then reassemble everything. I like to use a few less zip ties than the factory uses, you won't need all 127 of them again, most likely.

Not from the book, but I think I've covered all the bases, I've had the pleasure of removing my dash too many times for my little projects.

Hope this helps!
