I can tell you from experience I am a big fan of the John Deere Blitx black paint. I did my tail a few months back and I am very happy with it and it amtches the black air box cover to a T. It's proven to be pretty durable too.

I will be painting the headlight ring tonight I really llike the way that turned out. Sweet lookin bike.

Oldiron ,is it textured, and is that something you can find at Tractor Supply Co.? The thing I'm worried with is if I paint is the scuffing or scratching through once you throw on the saddlebags for long trips. Polishing it will cure having to worry about that.

Blazin,
I'm not for sure if ya can find it at TSC. I got mine at my local JD dealer, along with their primer. From all that I've read that is the most durable. Also no it is not textured, and as you can see it matches the bread box very well.

As for the saddle bags I have no good input for ya seeing as I've never put any on or set anything directly on the paint. Sorry I can't help on that department.

Good luck with whatever ya do a post up pictures when your done. I like seeing what other people come up with.

Jon
did you strip the factory coating off of the tail or scuff and paint?

Goldtooth,
D = All the above. I used airplane paint remover (the brand) then 400 or 600 grit I dont remember. Then I used the JD primer (its yellow) following with the JD Blitz blk. 2 coats of the primer (thin coats) and roughly 3-4 coats of the blk. I am very impressed with the result and the quality of the product considering its out of a rattle can.
