Considering switching to upside down forks and have searched the KV, finding some info but still wondering. Mostly I like the beefier look to the front end and the protectors on the front fender that keep some bugs, grit, etc off of the sliders.

Is there really any major difference for street / fun use? If I bought some, I would plan on have the valving tweaked prior to fitting. I have been fairly happy with the OEM M2 forks but they could benefit from some tuning as well so considering the change.

Thanks.

I think the Works forks were a nicer unit and I *think* more adjustable, but if you're going to have the internals tuned the difference will likely be negligible for street use.

Then again, I could be totally off base.

The WP ROMAS off the S2s have more adjustments than most of the Showas, but they are about 2" taller because the S2 uses clipons. The WPs off the early S3s and S1. Didn't have as many adjustments as the later Showa units on the X1s IIRC. The "ultimate" switch would be to swap to XB triples, forks, and front wheel, since the XB forks are fully adjustible yet the XB frontend has about 4 lbs less unsprung mass. It would require a bit more work than what you speak of, though.

The WP's (that's White Power, not Works, BTW) from the S3's and S1's had compression and damping on opposite fork legs and rebound could be adjusted only by internal spacers. I like them as they are very simple and easy to service. I've heard they have a limited range of adjustment, though haven't found this to be a problem.

The Showa's are considered by most to be the best as far as how they come stock.

They all have softish springs and could use some valving for spirited use.

Correction on the above. Compression dampening is one side, rebound dampening the other fork. No preloaded adjustment other than new springs or spacers inside.

I had mine rebuilt by traxxion dymanics with proper springs new axxion valves and they are the best forks I've ridden including ohlins. Maybe the ohlins weren't adjusted for me right.
