When I'm entering my neighborhood there is a tight corner that always has cars parked on or very near. I take it very slow to watch for kids and traffic. I basically idle coming into the corner and just barely move the throttle as I pull through the right-hand turn. If I take it slow enough I find that the bike sometimes will start to surge, lurching forward in a sort of uncontrolled and slightly unnerving manner. Providing throttle at that point might send me into the yards. I pull in the clutch and then let out again. It only seems to happen on right-hand turns. Seems to be new after I performed the carb mods for low speed jet, shim needle, radius'ed slide. I did not remove the accelerator pump and I'm thinking that the accelerator pump is abruptly squirting gas in and causing this to happen. I'd like to cure this behavior. Or maybe this is related to transmission and fluid movement?

A quick suggestion is to check and make sure that your throttle cable isn't binding when your handlebars are turned. It's possible that while you had the carb out, you might have twisted the two throttle cables, which can cause them to bind.

Now on the other hand, if you're basically at idle when you're making the turn, these bikes (or at least mine) have a tendency to "lurch" when you are moving at idle speed. If this is causing control issues, I'd recommend feathering the clutch while applying a little through the turn.

As far as the accelerator pump goes, as far as I know, the accelerator pump will only supply fuel when you twist the throttle.

Sound like good things to check. I just had the carb off so I could have twisted the cables. I think it would be safe to say that I drive pretty aggressively most of the time but I keep the front wheel on the ground (I think).

About the clutch. I do hear a clunk sometimes shortly after going from Neutral to first gear just before starting out. I put in first and a couple of seconds later... clunk sound. Sound just like I shifted a gear only I didn't and it doesn't happen all of the time. I've not been into that side of the engine so I guess it's time to check the fluid level and see about the condition of the clutch.

Since you said it is new since making carb mods, I guess my first questions should have been what size low speed jet did you put in and have you adjusted the idle mixture screw? Also, what size main jet are you running?

One of those two throttle cables is supposed to be adjusted with the wheel turned all the way to the right so you're not inadvertently pulling the cable when you're turning in that direction. I think it's the return... I did it a month ago and don't have the book in front of me. The first adjustment was with the wheel straight, while the second was full turn.

Slow speed is all feathering the clutch.

I use the 20w50w Mobil V-twin in the transmission as well as the engine.
