I may have the opportunity to purchase an '01 X1 in good condition, all original except V&H exhaust, with 13k miles for $3,000. It sounds reasonable to me but I wanted to ask those "in the know".

X1's are junk, run away fast and give me the sellers phone number.

Do a search for "front motor mount," "front iso," etc. in this forum.

If the bolt shears off in the head you're looking at around 500 bucks in parts and tools to fix it yourself. Provided you already have a compressor and an angle drill.

If I ever got another tuber, I'd replace the front mount with the billet one at around 15k miles, new grade 9 bolts, etc. As well as all the engine isolators.

If the bike shifts funny or was ever tipped on the left side, you may be looking at transmission issues. If the belt has been run tight it may be getting close to time for a new one.

Others have gone 100k miles with no problems but plenty here haven't.

Other than that the '01 is pretty much sorted out on recall items.

As long as the motor wasn't over-revved. If it still has the stock ignition, you should be ok as far as not sucking a valve.

You'll need to repack the VH every year or so, easy to do and you should probably change the primary fluid at that time anyway.

If the intake seals haven't been replaced recently you'll be looking at that too.

Basically keeping a tuber on the road involves either maintenance or luck, and as the years pile up and rubber deteriorates, luck is running thin.

Sounds like a good price. There are those who say the problems were sorted out by then but I've never had any FI problems with mine. Crank pin on the other hand... If it runs out good and you can't find any major flaws with it I think $3000 is very reasonable for those miles. I've seen them go for cheaper but there is usually a problem with it or has more miles.

That looks nice try to get all of the original parts to it. I have 2 XB Buells too and I can say when I get the X1 out the thing runs smoother than the XBs at higher MPHs. I'm thinking about buying the old RS another Bad webber has up for sale. I have 34,000 miles on my X1 and I am the original owner of it and I love it!

The intake, seat, and front footpegs are NOT stock. Also the rear tire hugger is missing. All of that is minor stuff though, I don't see anything that would steer me away from that bike.

Select seat and millenium rider pegs are still Buell parts, I'm not familiar enough with ham cans to know if that one is the Buell race one or an aftermarket.

If bone stock is what you're after, don't let those parts chase you away. Heck - I've got a stock seat and probably 4 sets of stock rubber-coated pegs sitting in boxes in the garage.

That looks like a very good buy. I paid over twice that in '07 for my '00 X1. It had 10k miles and was bone stock except for a V&H pipe and a race ecm. No regrets..

Nice looking bike. My brother rides a 99 lightning and loves it. You will probably need a rear tire hugger to pass inspection. Get the guy to throw in any of the extras he has laying around (IE stock airbox, service manual, records like recall services, etc.)

That is most likely a Buell race air cleaner, though it may have an NRHS billet backplate. You will know if it does because the venturi is cut with the backplate- all one piece.
