Has anybody put a tuber wheel in a xb swingarm? I know several people have put the xb wheels in tuber arms so I'm guessing it could be done the other way with the correct combination of spacers.

The ID of the tuber rear wheel bearing is 25mm while the one in the XB rear wheel is 30mm. I think the XB rear axle is 25mm, in which case you wouldn't need a sleeve on the spacers. If the axle is 1", you'll have to have it turned down .4mm.

yes, it can be done if you care for a heavier 3-spoke and a 170 VS the lighter 6-spoke and a 180. like Phelan said, you will need to modifly a few small things... seems like it wouldn't be hard.

i wouldn't do it though... but to each their own.

Texas, I may go with the xb wheels next year when I upgrade the forks on my M2, but I'm just trying to get a better shock without spending a ton of cash for now. I prefer narrower tires though, they seem to make bikes turn in easier. Buells are so tractable I don't think they need anymore tire.

true, i never have any traction problems with my 170... just wheelie problems.

but... whats this about shocks. tubers underslung VS XB top mount?

there are companies that will rebuild your current shock for about $200. even put in a proper weighted spring at the same time for another $120 or so. It would take a crapload of engineering, aside from the actual costs, to mount an XB swingarm onto a tuber. I know of only one person to ever tackle this feat, and he's one of them crazy Aussies : D!

does the swingarm mount to the frame the same? i mean if your already running an XB wheel, it wouldnt be very hard to tig a new shock mount on the swingarm

I'm a project engineer for a machinery company with access to our shop for personal projects after hours, so the engineering and machine work shouldn't be too big of deal. I think the cost of this project will be in line with a rebuild of my current shock, the one thing (other than the wheel) I'm not sure of is belt length. I've read Joe's thread about 100 times and his mount looks as simple and clean as anything else I can come up with so I'll probably just copy him. I have thought about modding the m2 arm, but the factory oil tank would interfere with the new shock.

fab a triangular oil (may as well make a big one)in place of the batt, relocate and laydown batt to rear.or something like that thought. Am interested in something like that also but for a dual sport-touring application using a x1 frame.

You best bet for the belt would be to measure using a piece of string around your front and rear pullies (ran like the belt is), measure in MM, and then divide by 14 (each belt tooth is 14mm).

That is, of course if you can't get ahold of Joesbuell.

Thanks for the info on the belt, I wasn't aware that the teeth were 14mm, that should make selection easy. I think that Jodie's belt would be a different length than mine due to his use of the xb pulley. It looks like I'm about to get swamped at work so this project may be getting put on the back burner for a while.

Cody I'm not using an XB pulley at all mate! It's a heavily modified 55T tube frame pulley ; )
My belt is a Uly/Ss 135T as the swingarm is longer than the stock tuber one and I run a Baker 26T front pulley very similar ratio to 29/61.

My stuff only looks simple because I nutted it all out so that it would work. The bike has done over 20,000 klm's since the swing arm was fitted and with zero complications and still using the same Uly belt I fitted with the build.

If it was so simple why aren't there heaps of them getting around? : )
