JT&S ran my M2 to get a 'baseline' a few days ago, here's what they found with the Stock Muffler, RRC Airblow intake, and Dyna2000 Single-Fire+Coil; 48 Low, 195 Main.

Jim suggested change to a 190, and shim the needle. Changed the Main, and the muffler, still looking for a #4 brass washer.

Stock muffler, Cool!

Thanks for posting this. It's interesting to see how smooth the "curves" are and how early the torque come on. There was discussion a while back on stock main jet size, I forget what they finally decided on, 185 maybe?

Clean looking bike too.

If I am reading the graph correctly, it looks like the main is nice and rich as is but there is a lean spot in the midrange.

Shimming the needle should correct the midrange.

Your graph makes me think that the stock muffler is far better than we might have thought.

If I am reading that graph correctly, the big gain came from opening up the intake.

Makes me think that the hot, but stealthy, street setup might be a stock muffler with a forcewinder intake and nice rich jetting.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Dave

I will also increase the rev limiter on the Dyna back to stock, I don't even remember why I turned it down.

I really like the quiet of the stock muffler, but I was stuck on the highway one time right in a car's blind spot and noticed I couldn't even hear my exhaust. Little too quiet for that situation.

The Drummer muffler sounded very loud at first, but seems to be at a frequency that is readily attenuated by good earplugs (33 rating.) Once I'm on the road, it's great, I can hear it but my ears don't ring after a 1/2 hour ride, like they did with the V&H, or the 12-disc SuperTrapp.

The other thing I notice is that people going slow in the fast lane move to the right over for me now, they didn't with the stock muffler.

On one of my other bikes I have a headlight modulator that flashes the high beam about 3 times per second.

I put it on to increase my ability to be seen by cage drivers in the daytime and it works!

It only operates on the high beam and it really gets attention.

Now I am thinking that, instead of a louder pipe, I should just install a headlight modulator on the M2 and maybe a Strebel Nautalis horn but keep the stock exhaust.

That way I can have quiet power all the time and yet be seen and have an outrageously loud horn when needed.

OK, I am confused now.

If the A/F ratio is 10:1 and it should be 13:1, am I too rich, or too lean? I'm thinking too rich, seems like 10:1 is way richer than 13:1.

If I raise the needle with shims, am I making it richer (seems like) or leaner? Seems like from studying different needles, shimming makes it more rich.

From looking at the A/F line on the graph above, at 3500 rpm, it's way too rich. I thought shimming the needle makes it more rich. So seems like shimming the needle is not the answer, if it had a clip, I would raise the clip on the Needle (dropping the Needle lower.) But we know these Needles don't have clips!

Can anyone clarify this? Based on the A/F graph above, do I need to make the Needle richer or leaner? It does look like the Needle part of the rev range, but maybe I'm not even on track there?

My guess is that your 48 low speed jet is a bit rich and your pilot screw is turned in too far.

You might be better off with a 45 and the pilot screw set at 3 turns out.

The main jet looks fine and the needle is probably good too.

However, you will need another dyno run and things will have changed now that you have a less restrictive muffler in place.

I'll admit that I am a bit disappointed that you have changed mufflers. It would have been really cool to see how well you can make a "stealth" bike run.

After riding the Drummer some more, seems like it is just too loud for me. I'm going to try an insert in the front, but very likely will go back to the stock, for the third time.

Jayvee,

I am interested in your results with a stock muffler because I took off my Race Header and Race Muffler and went back to stock exhaust.

Now I can actually hear other motor sounds that would have been drowned out by the loud exhaust and performance, especially in the midrange, is very good.

I have a Forcewinder and CV40 now and I am getting close to getting it dialed in.

Keep us posted.

Thanks
