Is the s2 thunder a deathtrap for a new rider? 165 lbs built on a 6'2 frame -- looking to join the addiction. Anyway, leaning more on a 500cc bike for about $2-3k....but I came across a '96 buell and cant take my eyes away. Hope to schedule the msf during Dec...collecting that last few pieces of gear....taking my time.

It's a fine bike for a beginner if you take care of it and take the MSF course first. You have to be careful who you let work on them though, or learn to do the work right yourself.

I bought my '95 S2 before I even had my permit. It is the only motorcycle I have ever rode until this year when I took my father-in-laws for a spin. Buy it and love it she will take care of you. Just watch the twitching in the right wrist.

It is a tall bike to shorter people. If you're a tall rider then it doesn't matter. They handle like a dream.

Intuitive handling, no surprises.

Smooth power delivery, no spikes or valleys, no surprises.

If you're comfortable getting it off the sidestand...you're good to go. Ride, grin, repeat : )
