Does anyone have a clam-shell clamp that was used for the initial recall of the M2 shocks that they would part with? Is it even something that I could install on the original shock if I had one? My bike has not had the recalls done and I can't afford a new shock. Mine is still good. The clam-shell would provide confidence against a catastrophe. I know that the original shock is inferior to the "recall-shock replacement" but that is what I'm stuck with for now.

just had the shock replaced on my M2 at a buell/harley dealer. just call the service dept, give them your vin number and they should be able to get you a kit and install it at no charge.(!) got mine done yesterday.

I called in my VIN and they are going to do the shock recall at no charge provided they can still get the parts. They aren't sure what to expect when they place the order. Please keep fingers crossed for me. I was hoping to get the new Y exhaust hangar too but apparently that is not a "Safety" recall. I'll be thankful for anything they are willing to do for me at this point.

If you're not in a terrible hurry, I'll be taking mine off to replace it with a new shock. I almost didn't want to bring it up since I don't have the shock yet and don't want to be stranded myself!
How about, if you get one in the meantime great, but if you still don't have it once I take mine off you can have mine.

That is a very generous off Dave. I can certainly wait and find out what will happen. This bikes been 16,000 miles on the old shock so I don't see any reason to panic. In fact my only concern is the wife wants to ride with me and that puts us at a higher GVW. I'll know in a week if dealer can take care of us.

I've recently been researching shocks, I've stuck a link below from Don Casto site that goes into detail about the early Showa.

Don makes the point that the kit doesn't prevent the shock from breaking, just helps keeps things together more-or-less in the unfortunate event.
I emailed a guy who said that he's had good luck revalving the old Showa but was puzzled as to why some leaked when they were put back on the bike. He determined that a crack had formed on some and was only noticeable once there was weight on the bike.
I then mentioned the recall and how I wouldn't want to service a shock that has the potential for failure plus I need a heavier spring rate for 220lb.

That said, I'm not sure I'd want to put the weight of another person on there if it might risk stressing a proven weak link of a part that could result in a serious mishap!

A Buell Warrenty/Service shop installed the recall shock today, all free of charge!!!

I can't wipe the silly grin off my face.

They were the nicest people there too. All of them. If your ever in Angelton, TX stop in to GEO authorized Buell Warranty/Service shop.

I also met a local 1125R rider that also has a 99 M2 and we rode back most of the way.
