I was wondering if anyone has ever put forward controls on an S1. I lost my left leg in 2006 and cannot work the shifter or bend that leg enough to even rest it on the peg. All I did on my custom bike was reposition the shifter but I`m afraid that won`t work on the Buell. I would greatly appreciate any input.

169, it could be done would it be safe for you to ride it healed over as these things can go way over, Diablo Brian did hand controls as he is partialy paralized, put up a note for him on the Quick board, he or some one who knows him may contact him,
IIRC he is an engineer/mechanic and would be an excelent person to discuss the mods with MY 0.02$ is that it can be done some how, perhaps not cheaply but it can be done

I wish you the best of luck on this, just thinking on it additional hardware attached to the forward shock mount, may provide a place for a foot rest the older shifters were called bow shifters and they had linkage that may be adaptable to a jocky shift?

Normally you would shift by pivoting your ankle up or down. Since I can`t do that anymore, I lift up my whole leg to upshift. Thanks for the tips though, I`ll figure something.

Wrecker - I know on my old Sportster (I mean OLD - right side shift), when the shift lever is is really high, I end lifting my whole leg up to shift it. To go down a gear, I can do it without moving my ankle because of how high the shifter is.

Maybe try adjusting it to as high it goes and see if that works for you?

EDIT - just say you can't even bend the leg enough... Don't the older Evo sportster forwards mount on the engine? I'm sure they could be made to work...

Forward CONTROLS are "UN-SAFE" at any speed !!!

My son-in-law wanted to put FORWARD CONTROLS on his bike ...

"i" told him not to do it !!!

He did it any way and a week later he was in the HOSPITAL because of the FORWARD COnTROLS, "PLUS" lost time from work, and he is still has pain ...

How can you say forward controls are unsafe? That sounds like it may have been operator error, they do take getting used to just like anything else.

They "CONTRIBUTE" to operator error !!!

Do you have to get used to foot pegs/contros, where they are suppose to be ???

I assume that rear sets would also be considered dangerous, or evan factory pegs on a bike with a more aggresive riding position. I rode a bike with forward controls for a long time, and loved them on that bike. By the way Wrecker, I have never seen anyone modify their Buell with forward controls.

There is an airshifter available that will work with the Buell. I believe it's main purpose was for drag racing.

On a side note...I remember reading an article in an old Fuell (before it was Fuell) about a rider that only had one arm. He rigged up a clutch and brake on the same side of the handlebar.

Very impressive to see somebody with a disability that still has the need to ride!!!

'id' like to go on record saying that 'i' think buellistic is being dumb about this. face it - your boy wrecked, he was going to wreck with or without forward controls. period.

to the original poster - i can not help you on repositioning of the pegs.
BUT
id like to say that there ARE kits that have up AND DOWN shifting by a button.
the airshifters used in drag racing would not benefit you. they are air shifters and only good for about half a dozen of shifts and then you'll be running out of air. not good if youre doing any extended riding.

but like i said, there are kits that are designed for street riding, check PINGEL for info

take care
ride on

I just saw some not too long ago on an M2 or S1...

They attached on using the primary and cam cover bolts IIRC.

This dude just cut the frames tail off and put a metal seat it, and raked the front end...

Here, I found it:

Hmmm I wonder if an 1125 "noid" would work for the shift bit, hit a button and the noid pulls up, you could get 2 from guys on the 1125 board as de noiding a '25 is a common practice.

I put heel/toe shifters on my bikes. I have my leg, but it doesn't work well.

Pingel, Techlogic, and others make electric shifters.
