Whats the largest valves anyone on here has stuffed into a lightning head. | ||

Not sure why you'd want to. If you're spending much money on the S1 heads, you should just move up to Thunderstormheads or XB heads, unless you get free machining. My dad owned a shop in the late 80's and raced, and my uncle owns a machine shop. My uncle has never done any oversize valves in a sporty or buell so I would like to do it. I know that the xb/04 up heads flow much better but i have a set of lightning heads on the shelf. I cracked the front head at both motor mounts and put a new set on. My dad rewelded the old set and they are sitting on the shelf waiting for me to yank the seats. I thought it would be a fun experiment to stuff some fatty valves in there and get some high lift cams to see how much power i can get out a lightning motor on stock displacement with headwork and cams. I know it not going to be easy and I have a lot of formulas and claywork to do but I thought it would be a good project working with what I have and not spending much on materials, since i will do it myself. | ||

You could search the archives here from around 2000 to 2003 where if memory serves there's a ton if info scattered about. I do remember something about the Lightning and TS heads, and the valve choices chosen from a mixture of HD models past. Rocket | ||

Don't forget about the valve stem size itself.....shrink it!! I have heard of some valves with 1 mm stems. I went with a 7mm stem and XB single beehive spring set up. |
