yes they will snap. but if you are really just ITCHING for that stupid load sound, get a D&D elbow so you can brace the bottom of the header.

note: you WILL lose power. : D

I am going to buy a D&D system and was toying the idea of hacking up the old header. It does look pretty gay from what i have seen as well.

Look at it this way:

With a open header you make a lot o noise
and no HP until you reach 6,500 to 7000 plus RPM !!!

Have you seen the latest South Park episode?

It is titled "The F-Word".

If not, I recommend it highly.

My dad has a sportster with Vance and Hines pipes that sound tough. He has put the Thunderbolt heads, X1 cams, and bumped up the compression in his bike also.

To help give mine a little more sound and power I took my Wilye Co. exhaust can and welded an exhaust pipe inside of it which effectively eliminates 2/3rds of the packing material. From idle to 1/4 throttle the bike is still fairly quiet, however if I lay into the throttle it really sounds good. It also has increased the power above 4,000 rpm with little to no noticable drop below that.

Say what you want about loud pipes and all that, but I am an old muscle car fan and there is nothing better sounding then a lumpy cam and an exhaust barely muffled by small set of glasspack mufflers. Well except that same setup at WOT.

I just bought a 99 st3, it came with an open reverse cone megaphone. Loud, and no bottom end. I now have a Kerker aluminum canister and it does the job.

I like the sound of megaphones : D. Especially with bumped compression.

open header - bolts havent snapped in quite some time. this is on a dragbike.
i will likely add a small pipe to it this year, about 8-10 inches.
but right now - zero problems and its been that way for quite some time.

let me rephrase - the bolts have NEVER snapped. but its been open header for over a year and a half or so and I've not had any problems.

After I took apart my SuperTrapp to clean it, I went for a ride with just the open megaphone. Definite loss of power in the low and mid rpm range. Sounded good though!
