first stage of the winter mods. i wanted more of a naked look on the bike so i have been taking off the plastics in search of that look. the wind screen has been bugging me and i was going to switch to xb headlights (still may) and liked the look of the ducati monster front. i took it all apart, put on some demarini bars i had, and fabed a new dash.
i started with some cardboard for a template and then transfered it to some .125" thick aluminum. cut everything out and sanded smooth. i did not have room for the ignition switch so i made a separate panel for that. it is bolted to the original dash location.
i made new brackets for the dash that are clamped between the handlebar mounts.
i still need to prep it for paint (it will be black) and make some minor adjustments.

still seeing if i like the bars. they are about 2" wider per side but the position is better than stock, just slightly more forward and down. may go for some crossroads.
anyway here are a few pix.

The bars do look a little wide, but I love the new look you have going there - real sharp bike.

yeah, the bars were laying around so they didn't cost anything. the search for the perfect bar will continue!

I like the red/white stripes on the fender and flyscreen. And the single headlamp seems to me moreso period correct. You have a great looking bike already. good job.

Now... don't screw it up

I have Ducati Monster bars on my Cyclone which are similar to what you have and I find them very comfortable

the number one best appearence mod i did to my X1 was ditch the stock chrome derby cover for a black one to match the rest of the engine. night and day difference.

the ignition is fine, my key ring does not hit the tank but i do not keep any other keys on my bike key ring. i do not like any added weight on the ignition switch.

The bars, depends on what kind of road. There's a road from Crockett to Martinez where you need sort of dirt-bike or short-track handlebars to make the turns.
Big smooth sweepers, might not need the width, but still not 'too wide'. Long straights or very high speed turns, yeah too wide.

Jayvee has it right.

Wide bars = effortless steering.

The only reasons I would have to use narrow bars are for lane-splitting or going really fast in a straight line.

Ask yourself: Why do flat trackers have wide bars?

They look good too.

Love the gauges. The flyscreen on my x1 actually causes more wind noise than with it off. The problem is it looks like poop stock with the screen off.

great looking x1, with or without the screen....

I was thinking of mounting these on my S1 for those quick trips to the liquor store

Those bars look like something the "adventure tour" group might like.

You might start a trend with those.
