T's came with the under seat, fairing bags and liners for the saddle bags.

Don't have a pic but the tail bag area is quite roomy compared to the X1's trunk.

IIRC someone posted a while back that the difference in price between a new S3 and a S3T was about $1,700.

I'd offer $4000 to a dealer. They probably have $2500-$3000 in it....but I'm guessing...lol

Well, the ball is rolling - Isolators are good to go, bags are crack free, bike has the underseat bag and saddlebag liners. It was all checked out by Buell techs, and one of them is "really into Buells" I was told. Basically, I don't know that I could feel any better about it having not seen it in person.

I made an offer, we'll see what they come back with. I was told that they had it written up for someone else for $4,500, so it won't be any more than that.

$4,200... did I get a good price?

That was my first offer and they took it, so I'm sure I could have gone less...

Up to how you feel about the deal...Do you feel good about the price?

Personally, when it comes to buying from a dealer I lowball the hell out of them because after working at a car dealership I know what they do on trade ins.

But, as long as you feel good about it, then good to go!
FWIW, I paid $4500 for my 02 M2 with 4500 miles in 07.

I think it's a good price, but with them taking it so readily just makes me feel like I could have a done a few hundred less.

I'm really no good at haggling with guys over price. I did good on the car I just purchased, but that's only because I fought them tooth and nail to give me the supplier price I qualified for, so I had a number I knew I was supposed to get.

I guess bottom line, you said $4,000, so only $200 less. In the grand scheme, not that big of a deal. I'm happy. Can't wait to get it!

I've been looking at S3Ts on and off for the past couple years, and I feel like I've always been prepared to spend low 4's for something nice and complete based on the ads I was seeing.

TSI has an '02 S3T, missing the leg fairings, listed for $6500!

I bought a 1999 S3T for $4050 a few weeks ago, so 4200 for a 2002 appears to be a good deal. 14,000 miles on mine with all the bags and several upgrades.

Only upgrades on this guy appear to be the full race exhaust, mileage is 11k.

"I was told that they had it written up for someone else for $4,500"

You know this is a kind of crap that gives the dealers a bad name...If this was true why would they take your $4200 offer??!!
Anyway, I think you got yourself a real nice bike. Enjoy and don't worry about a couple of hundred dollars less or more...
I just feel bad for the guy who sold them the bike..On the other hand he probably got himself a killer deal on a new Buell. Its a zero sum game.

Kalai - I got the impression it was a sale that fell through for one reason or another.

The originally had the bike listed for $4,995, then reduced to $4.695. When I called, the lady on the phone told me $4,600. They took $4,200.

At $4,200 for that bike, you got a very good deal.

It will be especially good if you keep the bike for a nice long time and enjoy it often.

There are a lot of bikes out there but a really nice one, like yours, is a better deal in the long run.

Congratulations.

I just hope it's as comfortable as I think it's going to be. I've ridden a Firebolt from NY to GA, I can only imagine the kind of hours I should be able to log on this thing.

PISSED

I'll disclose the full story eventually, but I need to know how much it would cost, parts and labor, to do the following:

Replace front isolator
Remove front motor mount bolt from head (broken off inside)
Replace rear tire with correct-size Dunlop Sportmax for PM wheel
Replace rear fender
Repair crack in saddlebag

Are there different rear fenders for the tubers? This one seems almost too narrow.

Yes there are different rear fenders for the tubers,my X1 fender has ample tire clearance but the fender on my S3T is snugger fitting and has rubbed on occasion.

On my '00 X1 the rear brake hose goes through the fender,my '01 S3T the hose parallels on the outside edge.

BTW a 170/60 Dunlop is 3/8" wider then a 180/55 Diablo Strada

Hope you got the price knocked down at least a grand for the needed repairs.

Well, I think it's the correct fender, then as the brake line runs along the outside.

This thing has a 160/70-17 rear tire on a PM rim.

No money off - I was assured this thing was checked out TWICE by Buell certified techs. And to think I rode this thing home 200 miles in this state. Boggles my mind that this stuff could be missed.

I'm really surprised the head mount didn't break on your trip home,I bet it's the left side bolt that's broke off.

What happened to the 30 day warranty.

I bought my S3T over a year ago knowing it had all the same problems as you listed plus needing the front rotor replaced and f&r pads.

Not trying to rub it in but I bought mine for $2,800 + $138 for gas for the 900 mile round trip.

All said and done and with new tires I now have right at $3,750 in it + about 40 hours of my labor going through the bike end to end.

Id call them and see if they would be willing to work something out.

I've called them, waiting to hear back to discuss options. I'm pretty ticked at the moment.

There is the 30-day warranty. I'm really not all that worried about getting things done, just worried about how it's going to happen.

They're either going to
a) cut me a check for the value of all the repairs
b) drive the 200 miles to come get the bike, fix it at their dealership and deliver it back to me
c) refund the purchase price, all fees, my gas money and wages for the day off work I took to go get the thing.

When I showed up to the dealer, the bike hadn't even been washed, had a screw falling out holding the right leg fairing on, had an empty tank of gas and had a tail light bulb out. In addition to all the other issues listed above. This bike was supposedly gone through twice by Buell-certified techs.

To be honest, I hope they just send me a check - at this point, the last person I want doing any work to this bike is anyone from their service department.

Yup, left side. Is the head mount the grey metal bracket that says "do not remove" on it? It's not broken, but the hole in the mount and the hole in the head don't line up - not sure if the engine is just sagging some or if the mount is bent.

No worries on the price - I think I paid a fair price having the assumption the bike was in tip top shape mechanically. Now that I've discovered that's not the case, it's up them to correct it, either by adjusting the condition or by adjusting the price.

The motor has dropped if the hole in the mount doesn't line up, being that is has been ridden at least 200 miles? in that condition it's toast most likely sprung.

If the mount would have broken off on the right side after the left side bolt broke the motor would drop several inches until the center tie bar would have bound, along with the oil filter hitting/rupturing on the front tie bar among other things .

Definitely would not have been a good experience, possible even a crash.

I would take option C and look for a different bike. With all the great Buell's out there, why start with a troublemaker? Sure it can all be repaired, but sometimes things like that are an indicator of a bike that is prone to problems or has a history of careless care.

Check the rear header tube where it goes under the frame for rub marks, if there are any the rear Iso's need replaced as well.

Rears are good, header is okay.

I just called the dealer back after not hearing anything from them in 3 1/2 hours.

I got a hold of the salesperson I dealt with and asked if the gentleman I spoke to this morning gave her my message. Nope.

This place is unreal.

I would take option C and look for a different bike.

I'm afraid it's not going to be up to me. They'll take the bike back only if they choose to do it - they aren't going to because I want to. To them, that's what the warranty is for. I doubt they want this back with what I'm about to tell them.

No, the bolt that goes into the left side of the front head.

I know about the head bolt but usually a really torn front ISO leads to that failure. Of course a bad rear ISO does not help. Hope it works out for you. It sure looked like a real nice bike.

Don't most states have a 3 day buyers remorse law, and you can back out of the purchase and get your money back. Was the bike financed? That may give you another option through the lender or have a stop payment put on the check.

It sounds like they miss represented the bike to you....you are not stuck with it.
