I have seen many of you who have polished the tail section and swingarm on the X1. Is there a preference for polishing as opposed to chroming those pieces? Is it just based on the price difference between chrome and polishing?

Polished aluminum is my preference, regardless of cost. I think it looks richer than plating. Brushed aluminum can look very good too. I guess it's all a matter of personal choice. That said, I think that nickel plated Buell frames do look great.

polishing will always look like crap unless you constantly maintain it. Even if it just sits and collects dust, it will look crappy quick without maintenance.

If I had it to do over again, I'd either plate, or powdercoat.

(she'll never look that clean again - but she's still a lotta fun to ride!)
