I have decided to keep my S2 and would like to ask for help solving an annoying problem. Over the years the mirrors seem to have gotten loose and end up walking down while ridding. This motion is occuring at the mirror end of the arm. As far as I can tell there are no fasteners to tighten. What would you recommend.

Place your mirrors where you like them and place a drop or two of blue locktite on the ball on the end of the mounting arm. I did the same to mine about a year ago and it helped greatly.

Kitert, first of all I am glad you decided to keep your S2, it is a nice bike.

If you take the rubber boot off the mirror you will see two nuts (It has been a long time since I have done this but I seem to remember two nuts on the mirror end of the boot) that can be tightened and also what Medic24 said; use some locktight (I use fingernail polish) and drop a little on the ball end of the mirror as well as on the nuts.

If you have trouble let me know. I think I will post pics and a writeup on the S2 yahoo forum next time I do this.

Here's a post on some aftermarket replacements from Yamaha.
I have a pair sitting in a box at home that I need to install when I find the time or my stock mirrors get the flops.

Another thing that works is super glue on the mirror end ball and socket.
I had to do it on mine a couple of years ago, sitll working perfect.
The super glue causes the zinc plating to oxodize a little, this tightens up the joint enough that it no longer moves unless you want it to move.
It doesn't really glue it in place, just makes the ball and socket fit tighter.

Thanks everyone for the tips. This winter I plan to take things apart and do a very complete cleaning and polishing. I will probably try either loctite or vibratite next spring when I am able to get back outside. On a slightly different topic has anyone put LED glow lights on their bike for display. I was thinking about putting on some blue ones. If so is there a brand you would recommend along with any placement recommendations. I believe that these lights would be illegal to have on while riding but would look cool in the parking lot and garage.

Doug,I havn't mounted bar end mirrors on my S2,but ran them in 1" drag bars on my custom FLH.You have to sleeve the bars with shim stock and it works fine.
