I am looking for a general consensus on what would be more collectable of the two.

96 S1 or 98 S3T

I'd think the S1 would be the rarer of the two. S1's were made 96-98, so a first year model should count for something. S3's were produced 97-02, so a 98 isn't really anything special.

If you plan on riding one, I think the S3 would offer a bit more comfort : )

The one you like is the one to get.

Get the one that speaks to you. You'll have a long, happy relationship with the bike that way.

If you buy it for "collectibility"....you might as well have a Hummell figurine or a Longaberger Basket that's good for sitting and being looked at. Not what a Buell was designed for, IMO. Get the bike YOU like; if someone else likes it too (i.e. it's "collectible")...bonus. If not...screw 'em. Either way, though, at least you have a bike that YOU like to ride.

Joe,

Well said!

Get the one you like. That's what I did when I got my black 2001 S3T. Then I saw a mint 2002 M2 and did it again. Love them both and "collector value" has nothing to do with it.

S1 and S3 are very similar in some ways while being very different in other ways. Both are really cool bikes.

Let us know what you decide.

Dave
