Hey Gang;
I am considering selling my '96 S2T and buying a 2009 1125R (they are selling at 50% off list...). I need to decide by tomorrow morning, as there is only 1 left in my area and they are going fast.
I love my S2T (very clean, Frank saw it at Homecoming last year, Quicksilver metallic) but would like to do track days next year and do not want to trash my S2. I do not have room for both Buells (along with a couple old Ducatis and Nortons, etc.).
So, am I crazy?
What would my S2 be worth? 14K miles, Corbin seat, V&H exhaust, original exhaust and seat included.
Any advice will be appreciated!
Thanks
Dave Hartleip

You can keep it at my house for free.

It's a really bad time to be selling anything with the market so depressed. I think you will be able to pick up an 1125R for the same %50 off for some time in the used market, so is there really a rush?

Thanks for the offer Gowindward! Free storage! I suppose I'll have to leave the keys also?

Would the 2-yr warranty transfer on a used bike?

Sure the keys would be good just to keep the cob webs blown out.

Yes, the warranty stays with the bike and not the original buyer.

You own a 14 year old Buell, old Ducs and Nortons and you are worried about warranties. I think the are well enough sorted out that they (1125's) are not going to be falling apart in a few years.

I could make room for a Norton too. LOL

Oh and you might get $4K ish for the S2T.

I haven't ridden an S2, but in comparison to an S3 the 1125 is worlds apart. Mechanically, the 1125 is an awesome machine. It's quite a bit smoother, with still some vibes to let you know it's a twin. Apparently my suspension is trashed on the S3. In comparison the 1125 rides on rails. Even keeping it reined in for break-in, the power of the 1125 is noticeably better as would be expected.
Looks and finish go to the S2. As much as I love an 1125 dash, there are mold lines in the plastic that bug me. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but the 1125 engine seems more cluttered with the coolant lines and the exhaust doesn't have the same artistry.
I don't know your level of expertise, but if track days are your goal and you've been riding an S2, an XB might be good intermediate step if the price is comparably depressed. That being said, I'd only do an XB as an additional bike. It's small - hang it from the ceiling! I can tell you it will take me some time to "grow" into this bike. Going from an S2 to an 1125 would take some talent and maturity that I don't have...
Note that I've only had the 1125 a few days and my S3 has been down a few months. At this point I can't tell you which I will keep in the long run.
FWIW, I'm assuming that when my S2 project is done it's staying.

I had the 1125R and Lynn's XB12Scg delivered today. I took hers out first (we have to lower it before she can ride it) and then the 1125R. Worlds apart. I have to keep looking at the bike to make sure it is a Buell. A lot of fun and I got into a little trouble in a curve with sand but I was going twice as fast as I would have been with the S2.

The 1125 is very much like my old XB12R for ergos but a lot of fun. If I had to choose between the S2 and the 1125R I would take the S2 BUT man, the 1125R is FUN.

S2 is classy, fun and sounds great and just fits me.

The Uly, well, it is just another XB but very capable but not sexy.

The 1125R reminds me of the S1W except civilized. I do not do track days but that is the bike to do it on.

Dave, I thought my S2T was in good shape until I saw yours. It is truly a great example of a classic and capable machine.

Thanks Frank.

I was able to squeeze the 1125 into the garage so will plan on keeping the S2 for a while! I do love that bike and it does fit me better than any bike I have owned.

Took the 1125 out this weekend. WOW, what a blast! (maybe Blast is not the best choice of words, it is anything but a Blast!). Looking forward to getting to know it better.

Awesome that you have both!

I keep hearing that I can't ride all three at once. It finally hit me, I have more than 1 meal in the house, and I can't eat them all at once! It's good to have a variety available so that you choose what suits you on a moments notice. ..and I'm sticking to that story.

I gave my story a while back. I gave up my S2 for the wrong reason (is there a right one?) I now have a 2009 XB12Ss and LOVE it. I think I would still give it for my S2 back.

Yes, I did Frank, and while it was sad for me to see the bike go,
I did enjoy seeing the grin on the new owners face as he prepared to ride it home to Oregon.
It's pathetic when I go to my shop in Las Cruces where most of my bikes are stored. Everything is covered with dust and cobwebs now.
