Only mod needed to make these heads work on your S1 is to drill/tap the holes for the carb support bracket. |

Only mod needed to make these heads work on your S1 is to drill/tap the holes for the carb support bracket. I presume that you have XB rocker boxes, if not make sure that the drilled and tapped holes allow the rocker boxes to breathe, then fit banjo bolts or similar to allow the crank case to breathe} |

XB pistons are needed, some go for XB9 for the higher compression ratio |

you could also have a 15* squish band cut into the heads to keep your t-storm pistons. (assuming your bike has t-storm now) |

He already has XB12 pistons and cyls, and the Heads are NRHS stage II. I recommended for him not to get the XB9 pistons in an email when he was looking at this set because it can be difficult (impossible around here in Amarillo) to find 93 octane gas. Plus he got a deal on all of it. The squish is set at 0* and I believe the pistons are stock, but I haven't seen them so I don't know for sure. Also, his bike isn't T-stormed, so it has lightning heads and flat tops. |

Dunno, you'd have to ask Dan. Either way it'd only be about a 2-3 HP difference on your build. |

anyone know of a list of parts im gonna need to buy to do the head/piston/cylinder swap? im assuming some head gaskets, and some other gaskets? ive never had or seen a HD motor apart, ive only done water-cooled vw engines, so thats all im familiar with... i also know with vw engines there are parts to get (from other years/models) that are way better, and what parts to avoid... looking for a little help from experience here... i certainly don't mind going aftermarket if its going to have a benefit and is cost effective |

Rockerbox gaskets, head gaskets, base gaskets, intake gaskets, wristpin clips, and it couldn't hurt to get new exhaust gaskets. Get the Screamin' Eagle exhaust gaskets because they're a better fit, get cometic gaskets because they are rubber coated and reuseable. As far as wristpins go, I don't know but I would thing the CP or Weiseco ones would be stronger than stock. Probably about $100 for everything. (Message edited by phelan on October 20, 2009) |

here is a link to our formula 2 XB engine build.... fairly similar to what you are looking at doing. http://www.trackdaymag.com/Articles/Red,-White-and -Buell-Part-4,-More-Power!.aspx |

thanks for the link! good info in there. tomorrow im gonna go over to a local bike shop and see if they can order the stuff i need to do the head and jug swap. i havent done a rejet on this bike, its been done before i got it. but what jet sizes do you think i should fall into with the following: stg3 xb heads xb12 piston/jugs force intake V&H exhaust i think thats it for major work, rest is stock for now, stock cams, carb, and bottom end |

ok i called nrhs and ordered the gaskets, plus a motor mount adapter (ouch) so now im in this thing for about $1100 when i was originally going to leave the motor stock the guy i talked to said i should be sitting at about 90hp, and the ported xb heads arent going to give me any power unless i upgrade to at least some factory white lightning cams or bigger, and that i should get the bigger header also... doh... |
