Still looks like a tuber rear wheel. How hard is it to convert to an xb front on an x1??

Notice no caliper. =)

You just need to get spacers for the wheels, and a bracket for the caliper.

I haven't put the rear on yet, but I have it, and the spacers from Hals to put it on. Notice the the forks are stock. To fit the XB front wheel on a '99-'02 tuber is easy. Press in tube frame wheel bearings into the XB wheel, run two left side axle spacers and a washer on each side. You'll still have to build an adapter forthe caliper though. On an earlier tuber like mine, it's a bit more difficult but still doable. The speedometer drive gets in the way. I am going to shave down one side of my speedo drive and a left axle spacer and see if I can center the wheel up like this. I did also have to notch the wheel for the speedo drive so I can use it.

Looking good Ross. Planning on using the 6 piston caliper or the 8?

6 piston til I can afford the 8 later. I would also like to eventually upgrade to wave rotors.

I figured you'd rob the Delphi EFI off the BT, and retrofit to your bike...

Well, so much for my "bolt-on affair" on the rear. Apparently the spacers I have are for a later tuber conversion with an aluminum swingarm, because they make my setup about 3/4" too wide otherwise. I have a couple options from here. Either I can have custom bearings machined to fit the wheel with the stock spacers, or I can cut the spacers down to the size I need. I sent a couple quote requests to some bearing manufacturers, via GlobalSpec, to see what it'd cost to have them make the bearings I need. If that doesn't work, I'll cut down the spacers and the brake mount until the spacing is satisfactory. I still haven't messed with the front yet, but there's plenty of time.

Ross

Well, I got one of the spacers and the rear caliper bracket cut down and the rear wheel on, but I still need to trim the bracket a little to get the brake to work. Once that's done, I'll get back to work on the front. Sorry for the terrible pic; it was dark already when I quit working.

Ross, you need to chop that cam cover.

Sorry the rear spacers didn't work. I didn't know or I would've told you. You should have no problem getting your money back out of them.

No worries, Rich. I wouldn't want my money back anyway as I cut of of them like crazy to make it fit. I'd love to chop my cam cover- thing is that I don't wanna mess with my cams til I have to.

Just messin with ya bro. I know the feelin, funds are tight here too. I got the rear brake working today, but I f***ed up the speedo drive trying to trim it to fit. It think I am going to turn down the spacing on the new I buy to 25 mm and put an XB bearing in the left side. That way I can eliminate one spacer, gain 2 mm back from the different bearing, and hopefully shave enough off the inside of the fork lower to make it fit center. That's the plan anyway. I shaved about 2 mm already off the inside of the left fork lower today- I'm thinking the previously mentioned stuff and another 2 mm should do the trick.

No real news, but a new pic (daylight). I f***Ed up the speedo gear trying to trim it to the size I need and lost a wheel spacer trying to trim it down, so I decided to ditch the original plan of using the stock speedo and I've got 2 spacers (one for a spare in case I loose one again or cut it too short) on the way from Dan @ NRHS. Once I find a deal on one, I plan on using a Veypor VR1 or VR2 mounted in a custom built dash with an iPhone mount next to it. I use my iPhone for my GPS anyway and I don't like the positioning options of my RAM mount. I'd rather have it click into the dash. Plus I'm wiring in a charger so my phone can be charging while I'm riding, so no worries of a dead battery on 16 hour riding days like my trip back from Detroit.
