If I disconect the clutch switch will it effect any thing? I had some problems relesing the clutch and the engine stalled before the clutch began to engage.

No but you need to "bypass" the switch by sticking a paper clip (or something similar) in the connector.

I disconected the switch and it seemed to work ok. When I let the clutch out it did not stall.

My understanding was that the clutch "safety" switch is in the ignition starter circuit, e.g., prevent starting the bike in gear without pulling in the clutch. What you described is more like the symptoms of a bad side stand switch. Its function is to stall the bike when the clutch is let out and side stand is left down. I would check the various combinations of situations to make sure you are "bypassing" the correct culprit switch.

Replace the kickstand switch with a small length of wire.
Mine lasted about 27,000 miles.
I hate that safety garbage.
